SeaBop Posted August 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2012 Hi Cruisers! Whilst exploring our options in Amsterdam, I discovered the the Van Gogh Museum is closing on Sept. 24th for 7 months. Many painting will be shown at the Amsterdam Hermitage starting on Sept 29th until April 2013. http://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/vgm/inde...ge=194&lang=en

Ine Posted August 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2012 Indeed during renovations of van Goghmuseum a part of the collection will move to the Hermitage, nicely situated on the Amstel river, bu in another section of town. Rijksmuseums renovation isnot that bad, since a part of the collection (incl. Nachwacht) is in a section of the museum. More or less same location as the museum itself. dogs4fun Posted August 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2012 We will be in AMS May 20 - 24, 2013. We plan on visits to both the Van Gogh & the Rijksmuseums during our stay. According to the museum websites, all work should be completed by this time? Anyone have any different info? thanks, jill
Ine Posted August 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2012 keep an eye on their websites. Renovation of Rijksmuseum has taken more time then expected. Too early now to say if all will be finished in either museum.
Herman The Cat Posted August 20, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2012 We'll be there in a few weeks (prior to 9/24). Would anyone be able to tell me how far it is from where the ships dock to the Van Gogh Museum, how long it takes to get there, how much time we should allow for a museum visit, etc.? Thanks~
dogs4fun Posted August 20, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 20, 2012 We'll be there in a few weeks (prior to 9/24). Would anyone be able to tell me how far it is from where the ships dock to the Van Gogh Museum, how long it takes to get there, how much time we should allow for a museum visit, etc.? Thanks~ You can take tram #26 (tram stop right outside cruise terminal) to central station (about 5 mins to station). From Central station, take either Tram 2 (towards Nieuw Sloten) or Tram 5 (towards Amstelveen Binnenhof) to the Van Baerlestraat stop (about another 5 mins). Very easy, very quick. How much time you allow for a visit depends on how much you like Van Gogh...IMHO, there is a lot to see there including many of his papers. jill
