timkins42 Posted August 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2012 We are looking at booking a Cruise/Tour for Aug/Sep 2013 and have several questions regarding this tour. It is the 8 day land with a 4 day cruise ending in Vancouver. The land portiion consists of 1 day in Anchorage, 2 days in Denali, 2 days in Fairbanks then Beaver Creek, Whitehorse and then Skagway. My questions are; 1. They offer for $563 for 2 people a meal package for the land tour. a. what do the meals consist of ie;box lunch?? Are the meals offered thru local restaurants at the stops?? 2. Where are the nights 1-8 spent? Local hotels? BB's or what? 3. In Denali they are advertising the "TUNDRA TOUR" and if that is not available due to some unforseen problem they are offering a 3-5 hr TEKLANIKA TOUR what is that? 4. Do we see HUBBARD GLACIER on the Glacier Bay Cruise? 5. Is it worth the extra money to upgrade to the VERANDA over the OBSTRUCTED/UNOBSTRUCTED Window unit on board ship during the cruise portion. Sorry for the length of this post but these questions seem important to us.
jtl513 Posted August 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2012 1. We've never done the meal plan, but as I understand it you get vouchers to use in the hotel or local restaurants at each stop. $563 may seem a little high for two people for 8 days, but be aware that in AK nearly everything is 50% higher than back home! (At least for us in FL - maybe not your part of NY) 2. I think hotels. We only did a 4-night land part and we had fairly modern hotels in Fairbanks and Denali. 4. No, Hubbard is in Yakutat Bay, not Glacier Bay. 5. I don't think it is. On our two AK cruises we just used the cabin for sleeping/changing/bathing/etc, and found plenty of public places for viewing of scenery. In Sep you may find that it is too cold to get much use of a balcony.
