Anyone who did "weekend getaway" on the Gem from NY?

We just got off the Gem on Saturday and I'm already looking into booking something for 2013 or 2014, but I also saw the weekend getaway that leaves from NY. Did anyone try it yet? Im wondering if it would just a rush and not worth it. The seven day cruise went fast enough lol. Any feedback? Thanks!

The 1 and 2 night Cruise to Nowhere cruises do go by very fast. You'll find the ambiance on the ship totally different than a normal cruise, everyone is trying to party and do everything on the ship in a limited amount of time. You'll find crowds everywhere, especially the casino and duty free store. The cruise is much louder, because there seem to be more small groups of people who know each other and are there to have enjoy the party atmosphere around the ship.

We've done a few, and have a few more booked. :)

I have done several Weekend cruises and One nighters. It is VERY rushed and I didn't sleep much, but I also have 2 upcoming booked already. (So I obviously love it.) Think of the first night on the cruise where the front of the ship is shoulder to shoulder for sail-away, the main dining room is crowded, the casino is packed, elevators are jammed up but times 10 because everyone stays up late to fit all the activities in.

I do these regularly because I own my own business and find it difficult to take 2 long vacations a year, so I break it up with 1 long cruise and 2 or 3 short ones to have something to look forward to.

There are many more adults without children as the parents find it easier to leave the kids home for 2 nights as opposed to an entire week.

I do feel they are worth it for a quick getaway. :)

I also enjoy these quick getaway. However, I'm the opposite. I pretty much stay in my suite enjoying the balcony and the ocean. I love when I don't have to cook, and make my bed. I also like to dress up and have a nice dinner with DH. We go to the show and then stay away from the crowds. DH sleeps a lot on these 2 nighters :)
