Athens tour by taxi or schedule walking tour?

I'm looking to do a tour in Athens but can't decide on what. Has anyone took a taxi from the ship and know if its worth it and the cost? I was also looking into the walking tours. Thanks for any advise or suggestions!

We were there in August (just a couple of weeks ago) and used privategreecetours.com. Manos was our driver, and it was great. He was very informative. And it was nice to be driven to the sites. We saw the acropolis, the temple of zeus, the forum, the olympic stadium from 1894, the plaka, and the replica of the tireme that was made around 1988 or so. Plus we had a great lunch.

 

Since we didn't DIY, I can't say if it was worth it -- I think it just depends on what you're looking for. On our cruise we did a mix of DIY stops and private tours. It was nice to do some of both. And while the private tours are more expensive than DIY, I think it's nice to have some stops that are relatively "easy".

I forgot to add: we also saw the archeologic museum -- which is a fantastic museum.
