Paul NH Posted May 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Bob, Thanks for the news flash. Did you notice that many of the transatlantics next year include Hamburg and Southampton? Glad to see a continued solid transatlantic schedule. Paul
highcbob Posted May 17, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Indeed Paul I did notice Hamburg added to a few of the trans Atlantics. Perhaps Cunard are trying to jump start the German market - not unlike "Caronia" which was very popular with Germans. I also noticed that one crossing stops in Guernsey but there are no times listed. Perhaps our friend "Guernseyguy" could fill us in on that one. Bob
Cunard Cruiser Posted May 17, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2005 I am very suprised to see no NY departures for Caribbean cruises. I wonder why?
cruiserking Posted May 17, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 17, 2005 I think Princess/Cunard feels they have a lot better opportunity to increase their earnings potential with these week long eastern/western Caribbean Cruises out of Ft. Lauderdale, especially if they sell a lot of back to back cruises. They would not be able to offer such a variety of different ports in so quick a turn around time out of New York. I hope they are planning on having New York-Caribbean trips in January and February of 2007, but, that might not happen if QM2 heads for her first ever world cruise. With a year under her belt it might be time to check out HAL's new Noordam in the winter of 2007. Cruiserking
Rare carlmm Posted May 17, 2005 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2005 Indeed Paul I did notice Hamburg added to a few of thetrans Atlantics. Perhaps Cunard are trying to jump start the German market I am not sure if Cunard is able to attract more Germans when, besides everything else, its price policy continues. I have not found next year's prices for the German market so far but in this season they were tremendously higher than the US prices. Yet even according to US prices the two extra day are very expensive. E.f. August 17 transatlantic NY - Southampton 6 nights in D7 $1399. Flight is included so let's say less than $ 200 per diem. Stay for 8 days NY - Hamburg you pay $2199, i.e. $ 400 for each of the two extra nights, twice the price than for the 6 nights before.
