Phone usage from Port of New Orleans

Does anyone know at what point you are roaming when you leave the port of New Orleans? Is it right whenu leave port or is it when u are out of the Mississippi river area?

I usually use my all evening the 1st night of the cruise. We are with AT&T, so that is displayed in the top corner. When it says "cellular at sea," it's time to cut it off. Seems like you can pretty much go all the way down the MS River before it switches to cellular at sea.

We used ours for quite awhile the first night also. We have Verizon, got a text message when service was switched to cellular at sea.

I have Verizon as well and was able to use it for quite a while after we left. I received a text as well when the service changed.

On Sprint, I have off network roaming disabled by default and have always gotten close to the mouth of the Mississippi and sometimes farther. For best results have had to be on a top deck not shielded by metal.

Yeah, usually when you reach the mouth of the river, you start to get into cellular at sea.

You have 90 miles of the Mississippi River to negotiate before you get to the Gulf. Say your goodbyes early.

 

And remember that many people lived full lives without cell phones--prior to the mid 1980's. Don't be part of the one armed generation--texting at all times. That's bad manners.

And be prepared for all the dinging from phones receiving messages when you enter back into the river on the last night! I have AT&T also and start receiving messages at or soon after entering the mouth of the river.
