Tipping in cash on Independence

Hi guys. On our next cruise, we have decided against pre-paying the gratuities, and are going to do it directly with cash, since we don't like the fact that you don't hand anything over to the staff anymore, not even vouchers.

 

On Independence, sailing out of the UK, should we tip in pounds or dollars? Or does it not matter?

We tipped in euros, figuring that the staff would have more chance to spend euros on a European cruise.

This was only for tips though - we did prepaid gratuities.
