hike to caves- how long/hard?

I am sorry if these were already answered elsewhere...

I have read many posts and still have questions.

If I am a slow walker due to foot problems (after surgery, still in pain)

would you advise not to do the cave tubing? I am concerned I would not be able to make it and/or slow up the group?

Is the terrain mostly flat? or a mix of climbing up and down?

I read its about 30 -45 min?

Anyone know if its more than 1 mile?

Is it hard to go through the water holding the tubes?

How long are you at the caves once you get there?

The trail to the start of the cave tubing excursion is a well-kept trail. It is mostly flat, but there is one spot where you have to climb up stairs and then climb down.

 

We made the walk in 35 minutes and I would say it was a good 1-2 mile walk. In order to get ahead of the other groups, our guide kept the group walking at a good pace. If you have mobility issues you would likely find keeping up with the group difficult.

 

We did not find it hard to cross through the water holding our tubes. There is a rope you can hang onto if you wish. If the water current would be strong, that could make a difference on how difficult it would be to get across.

 

The tubing guides will hold tubes for those who are struggling.

 

Once we got to the cave entrance, we floated through the caves for 35 minutes. After that, it was another 25 minutes on the river to get back to the spot where we first crossed over.

Some of our roll call did the tubing, they were exhausted by the time they got back. I dont' think this is something that you want to do if you have problems walking at this time. Dont know what time of year you are going, but Belize has not had much rain this year, and they had to paddle alot, and get out and push.
