cruisin'sz Posted September 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2012 What is the best way to get from Marco Polo to the Port in Venice? We will be traveling with a group of 6 with luggage. Can you pre-arrange taxis and/or water taxis and if so, which one is preferable? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
pete_coach Posted September 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2012 Taxi or pre-arranged transport is the easiest and least expensive. Water taxi will cost a fortune. Taxis are small, 2 people, 3 max with luggage per cab. Here is a great website that I have used often. http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/ http://www.shuttledirect.com/transfers/Venice%20cruise%20port
rebeccalouiseagain Posted September 9, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2012 A taxi will cost about 40-45 Euros to the port. The journey takes 25-30 minutes. So that would be 80-90 Euros for two taxis with luggage. 13- 15 Euros per person. The only other way would be to take Alilaguna from the airport. This is a ferry that takes approximately 1.5 hours and will be 15 Euros per person. http://www.alilaguna.it/en/tickets1/fares You can do a water taxi from the airport for approx. 150 Euros. But with 6 people and luggage- it won't be very comfortable or easy. Lastly- you can do the bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma. They run every 20-30 minutes and cost 6 Euros per person. From Piazzale Roma you then do the People Mover to the port for 1 Euro per person. I highly recommend doing a taxi.

Thanks.[/quote'] We took a water taxi for 5 of us with all of our luggage. It was about 100 euros and our hotel was near st marks. We also took one from the hotel to the ship. It is great and there was plenty of room for us and our luggage. I would do it again. If cost is an issue there is a bus (I believe it is called ATVO) that costs about 7euros per person and ends at Piazzle Roma which is a short walk to the port. mapleleaves Posted September 10, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2012 What do you mean by "best"? quickest, cheapest, easiest, most scenic Can you manage your luggage easily on your own? That might be the determining factor. There is a taxi line at Marco Polo just like any other airport. You'll need 2 taxis so about 90E. It's a 20 minute drive. A water taxi would be a grand arrival and very scenic approach. About 110E. There will be a walk of 7-8 minutes at either end. The cheapest option is the ATVO express bus plus People Mover to the pier. Total for 6 people 64E. A 20 minute drive at 7E pp. The bus drops you at Piazzale Roma, then you walk 1/2 block to the People Mover for a 3 minute ride on the monorail to the pier ( 1E pp). Then you will walk to whichever berth your ship is located. At the bottom of this link you'll find info on arriving by land or water. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-cruise-port-transportation.htm
rebeccalouiseagain Posted September 10, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2012 Since you will be doing the dramatic sailaway from the port down the basin and out of Venice on your cruise- save the scenery for then and take a taxi. It's quick, easy and the most comfortable means.
