Nalagh Posted September 14, 2012 #26 Share Posted September 14, 2012 We're on Explorer as well... it really was a pretty light bump. We were in the WJ having lunch and watched the NCL ship drift over toward us... we were prepared for the impact, but didn't get hit by as much force as we expected. Hopefully they had enough notice over there to get everyone off their gangways... everyone over here should be absolutely fine. The captain just announced that we will be leaving just a little bit late. We didn't sustain any damage, but the Pilot that was going to be escorting us is over assisting the NCL ship and we have another on the way from Hamilton. It sounds like we'll be leaving about 30 minutes late. I am so happy to hear that you are all ok, and that your ship is not damaged. I am also happy to hear that everyone on the Star is ok. I hope the Seas are not too rough for you as you head back home. Take care! Cherie
bajathree Posted September 14, 2012 #27 Share Posted September 14, 2012 I think they meant Cruise Line = CL I believe he was using CL as short form of cruise line. Carnival would be CCL. :D CL = Cruise Line Thank you :)
elleluv Posted September 14, 2012 #28 Share Posted September 14, 2012 The NCL ship has been back at the dock for close to half an hour... all told it probably took about 90 minutes once she broke loose to get back to the dock so her passengers could resume boarding. I could hear those stuck on the dock lift up a cheer from my balcony once she docked.

TBone2K Posted September 14, 2012 #32 Share Posted September 14, 2012 I saw a comment that it may not have been just a snapped line, but a broken bollard (the things they tie the ropes to). Did anyone happen to notice?

elleluv Posted September 14, 2012 #34 Share Posted September 14, 2012 I saw a comment that it may not have been just a snapped line, but a broken bollard (the things they tie the ropes to). Did anyone happen to notice? I'm going with the busted ropes... From what we can see, the bollards seem to be intact... They originally had yellow lines tying up the rear of the ship, and they are now in a pile on the dock. The lines they are using now are black... cherylroslyn Posted September 14, 2012 #35 Share Posted September 14, 2012 Absolutely. DH is a retired US Navy Captain. He is always very wary of the lines when we walk by, especially when it is windy. People have been killed by snapping lines. They ricochet and snap around since there is tension on them to begin with. You wouldn't want to see what those lines can do to a person. You will never see DH and I hanging around the lines. Yes, people have been decapitated and cut in two by them. Thank you for confirming... I have told people that many times and I have been made to feel like an idiot........... No one believes me. Wishing you and everyone else safe passage back to Cape Liberty. Thanks... Have to say though, this has been far from the MOST eventful event I've experienced on a cruise ship.... :) but I'm confident we'll be good in December. FLACRUISER99 Posted September 14, 2012 #40 Share Posted September 14, 2012 Looks like both ships will be leaving today, although late.Different story on the NCL board although I think the poster made this up.Looks like these folks will get some extra time (days even) in Bermuda. The Star will not be allowed to sail until the hull is inspected and cleared by the Coast Guard. Somebody's cruise is going to get cancelled for repairs. laddcalcagno Posted September 14, 2012 #46 Share Posted September 14, 2012 Hope everyone for both ships was okay. Seems to be a bad year for the Star. I live in NJ and it was on the news back in June that they had hit the Submarine that's attached to the Intrepid.

BND Posted September 14, 2012 #48 Share Posted September 14, 2012 I'd like to know how the Coast Guard would have anything to do with Bermuda. To start with, the US is not the only country with a "coast guard", maybe not called that, but doing the same type work. But, I don't know that Bermuda is one of them that uses the term "coast guard".
