Vanilla Planation on your own, possible?

Our trip is 7/2 for 10 days on the PG. Which island has the best vanilla planation and can we visit the farm on our own (not through a tour)?

Thanks!

do you go to Raiatea? you may be able to rent a car and go to one there on your own. we went to one on Tahaa, but it was on a snorkeling tour through west coast charters. we weren't able to go to one our last trip, but we found some very nice beans at a grocery store on Raiatea.

Yes, we will go to Raiatea and Taha'a. I am planning to scuba in the morning and walk around town or see a farm in the afternoon. When we went to Hawaii, we went to a coffee farm tour on our own. We really loved it. So we want to do the same in Tahiti. Our goal is to see the farm and how they grow the bean not really interested buying them (we will buy some of course, but we can order them quite easily locally).

By the way, I got a hold on a lady who have know the farmers in both island and gave me some contact info. So I guess I will see when I gets there. Thanks! ;)
