Look at the map where Brownes beach is located. It is on Carlisle Bay. We have been here several times. We have walked from the port several times also. It is a very nice leisurely 1/2 hour walk. We have been to Lobster Alive, and The Boatyard. We have also walked all the way down to the Hilton. It is a beautiful beach to walk along! Gorgeous long white powdery sand beach!

I see Brownes (next to Pebbles). In relation, where does the ship dock? If we walk, how will we know when we get to Carlisle? We've read Boat and Lobster is a bit louder and party atmosphere (which is fine) but this time around we're looking for a bit quieter spot. Suggestions? TIA. Enjoy:)

Brownes and Pebbles are part of Carlisle Bay, which is about a mile of white sand stretching from Lobster Alive at the north end to the Hilton at Needham's Point to the south.

If you stand on the beach facing the ocean, Bridgetown and the cruise terminal are to your right.

Looking at this map, the cruise terminal is just south of Brandon's Beach, where the land sticks out into the water.

Carlisle Bay extends from this point (south of Brandon's) to Needham's Point, which is just south of Pebbles Beach (look for the little point of land that sticks out).

Carlisle Bay is long, so depending on how many ships are in port, it may or may not be very busy.

If you get there and find that it's too busy, you may want to hop on a bus or grab a cab and head south to Accra or Rockley...

Cheers, P:)

We will be back in Barbados in February, and are thinking of checking out a different beach. We have only gone to Carlisle Bay, and are thinking of going to Accra or Rockley. How do they compare to Carlisle Bay? Do they have facilities? How long a stretch is the beach? Which one is more photographic? TIA!

Accra / Rockley is less than half the length of Carlisle Bay. We found it just as beautiful, with a little more wave action than Carlisle.

There's a beach bar called the Sideshore at the south end of Rockley, and a small man-made reef about 150 yards straight out from the bar - lots of fish and even turtles (if you get there in the morning)...

Cheers, P:)

Thanks for this info! Thinking we will go to Rockley for a change of scenery!

There's quite a few beaches to choose from - you might want to hop on a Z11 or if you're lucky to hire a car then there's plenty of choice, it just depends how long your stop is.

I can't be biased as all the beaches are pretty special, but when I filmed Gibbes Bay it was one of the prettiest beaches I have been to and deserted. But quite far from port.

In terms of photographic - well, honestly if you get there early morning, you'll get the golden hour and late afternoon in the west you'll get the HappyHour ;)

Hope the map helps

best regards,

Nick Welch

Thanks for the mention of the map. Took me quite a while to put this together but hopefully you can see the benefits. Still needs a few more beaches, but the main ones are all there to see.

:)

Kind regards,

Nick

Note that if you're carrying some gear, and it's hot & humid - then it can be a hot/sweaty walk... Once away from the dock though, you'll get taxis stopping to offer you a trip to Carlisle bay for $2.00 each (as of last week) - - - worth it! You can negotiate the same coming back (they usually start at $5.00 each)
