Tipping

No, not on the ship :p My question is we are staying for 3 nights in a NY hotel before our cruise. I've never had to deal with a doorman before - do you tip them everytime they open the door for you, or on your last day, or do you even tip them? Also, if someone takes your bags to your room, do you tip them? I've always taken my own bags up to the room. thanks for your help.

Bell hop, yes. Doorman, usually 1 time per day is fine. Amounts? Up to you. I would do $2 per bag to the bell hop and $5 to the doorman. Depends on your wallet.

As with all tips, it is dependent on the service you get, as well. I tipped a guy $5 at the Waldorf for bringing me a toothbrush, and I went downstairs to get directions to the closest store so I could buy a replacement. The desk clerk got on the phone and the man was leaving my room when I showed up. That is service!
