aloesch Posted October 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2012 Chankanaab is my number one choice of things to do in Cozumel but according to cruisetimetables it looks like there will be 7(!!!) ships in port that day. It doesn't appear like we can book Chankanaab ahead of time and I'm paranoid that it will either fill up or worse that they don't restrict the number allowed at all and it's crazy crowded. Anybody have any experience with this? Or thoughts? THANKS!

Anybody have any experience with this? Or thoughts? THANKS! We were at Chankanaab a week ago Tuesday on 9/25/2012. We did this on our own idependent of the cruise ship. There were 3 Carnival ships in port (the Legend and Elation in Puerto Maya and the Paradise further on up). I think it was estimated at about 8000 passengers total. Our ship was the first ship to arrive in port at 9AM ship time (8AM Cozumel time). We got off the boat(easy walk up the pier to the taxis)and headed right over to the park. It was about a 15 minute taxi ride. Our dolphin swim was scheduled for 12pm ship time (11am Cozumel time). The park was empty until that point. Around 11:30am Cozumel time was when the larger cruise ship excursions started arriving. Even once they arrived, it did not feel crowded. I realize 3 ships is less then 7 ships...but I am hoping you can get something out of my experience. I would think as long as you get there early, you will be good. Enjoy your trip. #1TravelMom Posted October 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2012 There is lots of room to spread out so it doesn't feel extremely crowded. They do run out of snorkel gear and life vests though. We saw a lot of aggravated people who thought they paid to snorkel but didn't get a chance the whole day because they ran out of vests. They require you wear a vest even if you bring your own gear. aloesch Posted October 7, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Absolutely. I booked it yesterday for my DH and myself. Use "2X1SWIM" when booking :-)
