chikenkicker Posted October 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2012 I booked my upcoming cruise cause I haven't had a vacation in almost 3 years, pretty much since my last cruise. I use it to get away from my life and everything here for a short time. Now here's the problem, I coach a bible quiz team at my church if anyone doesn't know what that is, it's a competition between 2 teams on general bible knowledge I coach the grades 1-6 range. Well I found out Sunday that 1 of the quizzers on the team will be on exact same ship as me at same time. Book something to get away and they follow you there without you knowing it until shortly before. At least I found out ahead of time so I can try to avoid him as much as possible cause you know kids they can be annoying at times, lol. But has anyone else had that cruise to get away only to find out someone you're getting away from shows up on same ship?
Guest LoveMyBoxer Posted October 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2012 Yup, two years ago I "bumped" into an attorney I work with and do not really care for! Thank goodness it is a BIG ship! :D
luddite Posted October 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2012 I have discovered the same woman aboard ship on many cruises, actually all the cruises I've been on. It's like she knows my schedule and follows me.
chikenkicker Posted October 25, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted October 25, 2012 I mean its 1 thing if its an adult but an 11 year old kid you know he's just gonna try and annoy me because he can. Edit: this isn't me saying I hate kids, I love kids, I wouldn't coach the bible quiz team if I didn't like them. I wouldn't work with children's church if I didn't like them. But sometimes I just need time away from them, lol I'm still a young adult, only 23. I need my time if I ever plan to have any of my own, lol. Rare chasinraynbowz Posted October 25, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 25, 2012 After 4 days at Disney, my mom, sister and I went on a 3 day cruise. I got lost one day.... on purpose. I needed time to myself. It can be done. Your student is 11 and likely to be busy in the kids program. You can hide out in the adult area, the casino, etc. They are big ships. You will be fine!! You act like the kid is out to get you. I doubt he planned this vacation. And I'm sure he will be too busy having his own fun to really give a hoot about what you're doing. If you dislike being around these kids, why the heck do you do it??? If I thought kids were out to "annoy" me, I sure as heck wouldn't sign up to spend extra time with them. MLE Litella Posted October 25, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 25, 2012 When I sail local, I always run into somebody I know. And it's always like two ships passing in the night.
cmjb4ever Posted October 25, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 25, 2012 Could you talk to his parents before hand so they could explain to him that he shouldn't follow you around? I know my parents always explained the proper time and place for me to hang out with adults and when not to. It's not a bad thing, just something kids need to learn. flounder315 Posted October 25, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 25, 2012 I bet you will never see the kid if you don't want too. Camp Carnival keeps them pretty busy. Avoid the places were the kids hang out (lido deck pool) and you shouldn't have a problem. Good Luck and enjoy your cruise.

cruising_kenboy Posted October 25, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2012 I was on a ship once and someone my wife knew "intimately" was on the same cruise with his wife. They were gamblers so I always would run into them at the casino. Every time we saw them, they got an expression like they just sucked on a lemon. I thought it was funny. Brenna's Mom1 Posted October 25, 2012 #12 Share Posted October 25, 2012 Heck...I've been on cruises where, unless we plan on meeting up, I never run into members of our party and they know my cabin number.
twinbee Posted October 25, 2012 #13 Share Posted October 25, 2012 In 2006 my mom passed away after being her care giver for almost a year. My husband and I decided to go on a Princess cruise to relax and get away since we just went through a tough year. We were excited to be getting away and having some alone time. We were only on the ship for a couple of hours, when there was a knock on our cabin door. My husband opens the door, and standing in the hallway was my husband brother and his wife! They decided to "surprise" us. Thankfully, their cabin was on another floor, however they did change our dinner reservation from a table of 2 to a table of 4. Needless to say, this was not a happy surprise for us.
USNUZULOOSE Posted October 25, 2012 #14 Share Posted October 25, 2012 We ran into someone who we have done work in there home. They wanted to discuss something about their carpet. But thankfully her friends drug her away. Call us when we get home. Other wise we would of been happy to talk to her about the cruise, just not business. I hope you maybe get a chance to get to know the kid better.

Rottweiler Puppy Posted October 25, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 25, 2012 But has anyone else had that cruise to get away only to find out someone you're getting away from shows up on same ship? I found out some people from my work are on my cruise next month on the Ruby Princess. Not too worried though. We are cabin D226 they are in D225 lol. Last year with Carnival I had to change my cruise date and it turns out the one I was supposed to be on had a guy from work in it, not really someone I would have wanted to cruise with either. On our last Imagination cruise this past June my sons ran into a few people from their school and the neighborhood.
Crazy4Koko Posted October 25, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 25, 2012 don't worry about it..its a big ship. The boy will be very busy doing his own thing I'm sure. I've cruised with my own kids and if it weren't for the 'see you at dinner' rule..I'd never have seen them..its a heck of a lot more fun to go to planned activities than sit by the pool with a grown up. you're young, and I can understand how you could think that you are the 'be all and end all' to this child... but trust me..you're not. No insult intended... the ship is just a LOT more fun than you!
MicksMom Posted October 25, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 25, 2012 Booked a last minute cruise & found out the day before that a co-worker was going to be on the same cruise. He was rumored to be having a fling with another co-worker so the joke was would he bring his wife or girlfriend. Ran into them by the elevators (with wife) about 15 minutes after boarding. Only crossed paths with them a few times.
G&TQ Posted October 25, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 25, 2012 We cruised once and the week before found out the nurse at my son's school would be on the cruise. The day before we were at the Kennedy space center, DH posted on facebook that we were were in the rocketgarden and a friend posted they were leaving for a cruise the next day and at Coco beach. Turned out they were on the same cruise along with 22 faculty members from my sons school. We bumped into the friend a few times and a couple of the teachers would stop a sec and chat then move on. I can't believe he would want to hang out with you. Don't stress it. :)

HeidiHo Posted October 25, 2012 #21 Share Posted October 25, 2012 When my son was in Jr. High he saw one of the teachers from his school on the ship. I'm sure the teacher wasn't thrilled to see him but luckily my son was not actually a student of his. He just recognized him from seeing him around the school and he thinks the teacher recognized him because he was staring at him and my son was wearing a school T-shirt at the time. We have no idea what this kid is like. If she feels he'll be annoying, the only reason she'd bring up the subject because he IS one of those annoying ones. There really are some out there As for liking kids or not, she explained that. I'm in the medical field, but keep my mouth shut about it. Almost every one wants "free advice", that's annoying. Hey, I go on vacation to get away from it.

CruiseCraig Posted October 25, 2012 #24 Share Posted October 25, 2012 A couple years ago, I found out one of my colleagues booked the same cruise on the Carnival Glory. We ran into eachother once in Grand Turk, and again on the last day waiting to debark. Wasn't an issue at all!
chikenkicker Posted October 25, 2012 Author #25 Share Posted October 25, 2012 To the people calling me she, I'm A he. Not she. And I already said I don't hate kids, I don't hate this kid. He's just already said if he sees me he'll bug me. He's a good kid though and I know there won't be a problem.
