LOVECRUISING100% Posted October 29, 2012 #33 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Loved, loved, loved Half Moon Cay ! IMHO, the cabana was too expensive for the two of us, but we certainly did enjoy it. Loved that it had it's own shower, a mister on the fan and comfy furniture. It was scorching hot that day so the shade was welcomed. Enjoyed the snacks provided to us as well: salsa, guacamole, corn tortilla chips, sour cream, fresh fruit...) I do have one question that maybe someone could answer: While we were in the cabana, there was an unusually loud "hum" that was coming from one of the trees next to us. I'm talking really loud - was the noise from an insect? Or some other critter?? We enjoyed another Sea Day on Monday and got some laundry done. The self serve launderettes were a bit of a walk from our cabin, but machines were available and I had remembered to get lots of quarters from the casino the evening before. Tuesday was St. Thomas - so excited as we had booked a Carnival excursion to go over to St. Johns. We had never been there before and I was anxious to see their gorgeous beaches. With the zoom lens, coming into St. Thomas: Threatening skies before excursion: To Cute !!

Ykgorbie Posted October 29, 2012 Author #35 Share Posted October 29, 2012 We have this EXACT cabin for our 12/01/12 cruise. Do you have any pics? Pretty please?:D You know, I could kick myself, but for some reason I totally forgot to get any pictures of the cabin. BUT, if you go onto the website cruiselinerooms dot com and go into Carnival Freedom (same class of ship as Liberty), there are nine pictures of cabin 6452 and they are all 100% identical to cabin 6452 on the Liberty. Hope that helps. You'll love the balcony - as I understand it, the aft wrap cabins on deck 6 are smaller than the wraps on the other decks, but it was perfect for the two of us. It was our second aft wrap, the other being on the Miracle, and this is the first time we had ever had a problem with people tossing things onto our balcony, I suspect from the Lido deck. The aft of the Liberty seemed to be more slanted than the aft of the Miracle, not sure if this had something to do with it. One morning we had a pizza crust on our balcony and another morning we had broken glass everywhere and the third incident was a little scarier. A LIT cigarette butt fell not 6" from my foot as I sat out there. Not cool, but I would still not hesitate to book another wrap. Just another note, the balcony lights do NOT work at night (something to do with interfering with the ships navigation system). We still had enough light from above to maneuver around and it was actually better to see the stars anyway.... Enjoy your cruise !!!

We were unsure of which St. Johns excursion to pick, so curious what yours was like.
Ykgorbie Posted October 29, 2012 Author #38 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Oct 17th took us to San Juan. This was our second time there although the first time we docked at 5pm and were there until 11pm. This time was a day visit and we really didn't find any excursions that interested us, so we decided just to get off of the ship and walk around a bit. From the ship, we had a much different view of things compared to our first visit - the port of San Juan is large, as is the city ! Anyway, we got off and walked around for a good hour. It was super hot out and the humidity was high, so we stopped into a little restaurant and had a snack and a couple of drinks. Piggy met a few new friends. I know, not a very good representation of San Juan....but it started POURING and I mean pouring ! We tipped our waiter extra well when he got us a garbage bag to put the backpack and my purse into for the run back to the ship. We were a ways away and by the time we got to the ship, we were soaked to the bone. And laughing. Running in some liquid sunshine beats being at work any day. Leaving San Juan: There were some German tourists that they kept paging over and over - not sure if they didn't make the ship or what, but they even had a German translator air a message for them. Next up: Grand Turk !
Ykgorbie Posted October 29, 2012 Author #39 Share Posted October 29, 2012 I was surprised at how small (and flat) Grand Turk was. The pier almost didn't seem large enough ! As we were pulling in that morning, we saw a couple of sea turtles straight down from the side of our aft - unfortunately, I couldn't get my camera out and de-fogged (lol) in time to get a shot of the two of them repeatedly lifting their heads out of the water. Pretty cool to see though! The shot above was taken from the boat we took a Carnival excursion on called "Reef and Rays". First we headed over to an area not too far from the ship where there was snorkeling. Again, I didn't snorkel, but DH did. He really enjoyed it. The snorkelers were in the water for about 45 minutes. There is a "friendly" shark that hangs around in the area - hubby saw it but didn't pet it as the others did.
Ykgorbie Posted October 29, 2012 Author #40 Share Posted October 29, 2012 After the snorkeling was done, we headed to the other side of the island and then out to an uninhabited little island called Gibb's Cay. It was gorgeous and the water was some of the clearest I have ever seen. I took this shot of the baby rays from the boat we were on as we pulled up to the beach: After wanting to for years, I FINALLY got to encounter a ray. They had a photographer along and we got some nice shots getting a "back rub" from the medium sized one (there were about 5 in total hanging around us) and holding it. Best excursion EVER - we thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh, of course we had to give the ray a kiss - supposed to bring you good luck. Coincidentally, my husband won $986 at the slot machines the next day. Hmmmmm ;)
