Regatta NY to NY 2012

If I was just flying home I would try to change my outbound flight from Boston if possible

Seems like the airlines are doing their best to help people stranded by the storm

Not sure if you get CNN on the west coast but watching here in Canada I can only imagine some of the devastation there

People are taking 3-4 hrs to just get to work in the city ...I would just stay home

That shows the dedication of New Yorkers

Friends we met on a cruise are in NJ ..Had a short email from them they have no power, cannot leave their home because of downed power lines outside the house

I am just glad they are safe

I thought our snow storms were bad

The good people that were on this cruise had their vacations disturbed by the storm. And the same can be said for folks scheduled on the follow-up cruise. This happens.

I assume that Oceania will do everything they can to make things right for their customers, to get them where they need to go. I have no experience in this area so I don't know what a top cruise line does in emergencies such as this. I expect, though, that not every passenger will be satisfied with their efforts.

My first O cruise is on the 27th when the Regatta gets to Miami. I have purchased trip insurance. Would events such as this storm be covered with trip insurance? If people had to remain in Boston until they could get flights home, would they be compensated for their expenses?

Hi everyone,

I'm on the Regatta and we're all safe and sound in Boston. Oceania did their best to monitor the situation and update itineraries as we went along. The crew has been great!

From the sound of the kvetching, some passengers are completely clueless about the devastation in NYC. Did they ever turn on the cable news in their staterooms?

The sea wasn't really rough coming back from Halifax, just some minor swells...you're on a ship, people!

Beg to differ. I wouldn't call what we had from the time we left Halifax until the following evening " minor swells". This was not our first cruise but it was the roughest. When the cruise director confesses to you that she slept with a waste basket by her bedside for the first time in 25 years I don't think she considered them minor.

That is why I never book a Canada /NE cruise at this time of year

Our first cruise coming out of Bermuda to Montreal in August hit 25ft waves  from a storm coming up the coast...

the ship was smaller that Regatta....never again

Beware of Alaska early season if you're not in the inside passage, too. We had 32' waves in a nasty storm one May.

The ships take the open-ocean side so the casino can stay open, I guess!
