  1. We are on Explorer in two weeks and I can't find anywhere to order liquor for the room "pre cruise".
  2. I should have said that we were thinking of taking our bags off with us so we can get to the airport in time. Ramps are not a problem, stairs are.
  3. Does anyone know if when disembarking from the ship with your bags if you walk straight across to the customs area or if you have to walk down the flight of ship's stairs to get there? I ask because at another port we had to do that and it was very difficult for my wife and that was years ago.
  4. We have a Alaska cruise in May beginning and ending in Vancouver. Didn't realize until recently that you clear Canadian customs when you arrive in Vancouver at the end of the cruise and that you than go through US customs at the Vancouver Airport instead of when you arrive in the states. Does anyone have an idea the time this will take when we get off the ship. We have a 12:30 flight. There is only one other ship (Holland America 1600 pass) in port when we are there. We do have Global entry, which from what I have read will allow us to use an expedited line going through US customs. Was hoping to leave ship around 8-9. Ironically when I booked the flights back I made sure to have plenty of time in SF to clear customs.
  5. We are flying Vancouver to Dallas next month after our cruise and they have a flight that leaves at 11:40 am. Plenty of time to get from the port to the airport.
  6. We also received e-mail, but in our case Klawock is replacing Wrangell, not Ketchikan. Considering there are 7 ships in Ketchikan with possibly 11,000 people when we are there I would rather have skipped Ketchikan and went to Wrangell.
  7. Just had to cancel a cruise 175 days out and got hit with the $500 pp cancellation that I knew nothing about (my fault for not reading the fine print). I think it is very short sighted of Oceania to not allow you to transfer that amount to another cruise. Had we been allowed to do that we would have already booked a future cruise. As it is they have lost us as customers permanently. Would never even consider Oceania again.
  8. Hope this isn't true. My wife and I really love listening and dancing to live music such as Seabourn and Regent have in there clubs before and after having dinner. The last time we were on a cruise where they had a DJ all he did was play the tunes he liked and the fact that no one was on the dance floor at all and were asking for songs they had heard of before meant nothing to him. Obviously this is a cost cutting move. Judging from the amount of people on the dance floor on our last cruise I don't think it will be a popular move.
  9. This was also our recent experience on our first (and last) Viking cruise over the Holidays. This ship was nice and the crew were wonderful however the food was not. Some of the worst food we have had on any cruise. The tours were so-so. We are going on Seabourn this August and unless they have come way down it will be more enjoyable than Viking.
  10. Anyone know what the taxi fare from the cruise port to FLL would be. We have an early flight and are trying to decide between a taxi or Lyft.
  11. We are in a PS2 cabin if that makes any difference
  12. This is our first Viking cruise. We generally like to have a drink or two while getting ready for dinner. I know that we will have some small bottles of alcohol in our mini-fridge. We both drink Vodka but I drink black russians which is Vodka and Kahlua and I'm sure that won't be available for the fridge. My question is can we order drinks from room service ? We have purchased the drink package if that matters.
  13. We are cruising on Viking for the first time this December. Our last cruise in the tropics was on Oceania. Unless you went out and "reserved" a couple of chairs by the pool by 6:30am you were out of luck most days. Even though Oceania had a sign up stating that, if the chairs were unoccupied for a certain length of time the items would be removed, this was never enforced. Is this a problem on Viking also ?
  14. Thanks everyone. Since this is our first Viking Cruise we are looking forward to the Abba & Beatles shows. Never thought we would take a holiday cruise but thanks to Viking's no children policy we booked it.
  15. Thanks for the info, do they ever have anyone singing or is it just instrumentals ?
  16. Have a quick question regarding late night entertainment. This is our first Viking cruise. We just got off a back to back Regent cruise we enjoyed very much. After the show (if we bothered) we would always go into the club where they had a duo playing each night. They were wonderful singers. Does Viking have anything like this or is it just a couple of band members playing instruments ?
  17. We have a Penthouse cabin on our upcoming cruse. Anyone know if the cabin has a Blu-ray player in it ?
  18. We are on a back to back cruise on Splendor starting Sept 5th. The first northern Europe cruise has great availability while the second British Isles has been sold out for a long time.
  19. We are on this same cruise followed by the British Isles cruise (same ship). If we get tested before boarding in Stockholm would we have to get tested again at sea before we arrive in Stockholm ?
  20. We are also boarding on 9/5. Our first Regent cruise and yes we also are on deck 8.
  21. We have been on 3 Seabourn cruises and I have to say I agree with the above. Enjoyed Seabourn Square for afternoon lattes and just to relax. Didn't go to that many shows but agree the sight lines were pretty bad. The Club we went to before and after dinner and enjoyed very much. The food in the Restaurant was ok but nothing to rave about. Didn't find The Thomas Keller Grill all that good. Can't compare to Regent since our first cruise with them is this Sept. Really looking forward to it.
  22. We have the Chase Reserve Visa which gives us trip insurance for a total of $20,000. We had to use it twice in the last 6 years and had no problem. That said our upcoming cruise is more than $20,000 so we either had to buy additional insurance (which as you stated is very high) or take our chances. We decided to take the chance. Regardless we are at least covered for the $20,000
  23. We were wondering the same thing. We have a back to back on the Splendor in Sept. The first cruise ends in Southhampton. We have to change cabins (actually the cabin next to our original one). Don't know if we can go and come or we have to be off the ship and not allowed back on since our key card won't work on the new cabin.
  24. We have our first Regent cruise coming up in Sept. The first part is Northern Europe of which the currency is the Euro in three of the ports and the other 6 ports have different currencies. The second cruise is all British pounds and Euros. What do you suggest using to tip the guides and drivers in the ports that don't use the Euro or Pounds ? Don't want to try to exchange to the local currency for just the tips. Will they except the Euro or USD ?
