Sea Princess Caribe deck balconies? covered?

Hi,

We have a BD category balcony towards the aft on Caribe deck (C728) on the Sea Princess. For anyone that has stayed in similar cabins, are these balconies partially covered? Is there a lot of 'wind' noise when you leave the doors open at night?

Thanks,

Vic

The balconies on the Sea Princess are not at all like the ones on the Grand Class ships. Except for the ones at the aft of the ship facing the wake, they are all fully covered. They are more of a cutout of the ship rather than an extension on the side. Picture a very large window cut in the side of the ship for each balcony opening. The balconies are about 9 feet wide x 3-4 feet deep.

The balcony's on the Sea Princess Caribe are fully covered? We may like that kind of privacy, but will that also block out the sun during the day and the stars at night?

You still have a veiw of the ocean and stars but unless the sun is rising on your side of the ship, you won't get much sun. These balconies are quite tiny in comparison to the larger ships. No room at all for a lounge chair. They have one small round table and two small chairs and that is all there is room for. They are good for some fresh air or having coffee or a drink out on your balcony, but other than that, well................................

For those who think they require total privacy with their balcony, the Sun class fits the bill best.

I for one prefer the 1/2 covered 1/2 uncovered balconies on some of the other ships - best of both worlds, at least for me.

Isn't it wonderful we have so many choices?

We were on the Sea for 15 days in 2001 Cabin A339 on a Panama Canal transit. The balcony itself measured eight feet ten inches long and four feet wide. Two resin chairs (it will hold four) and one small table. On either side is a partition that when open folds up against the slider. We found that out one day when the wind blew one of them open. Our Cabin Steward quickly got a large hex key and put it back in place. One word of warning. Your next-door neighbors can peer into your balcony and part of your cabin by peeking through the vinyl type closure at the ends. Nobody could see us from above (we were completely covered) or from the bridge extensions. This was spring time and except for the last couple of days of the trip enroute from Cabo to San Diego we left the sliders open every night. Fortunately amost every day most of the relative wind was coming from the port side of the ship and we were on the starboard so it was quite pleasent for almost the entire trip. This was in 2001 of course but I doubt if they have made any changes to the balcony cabins since then. We liked the Sea Princess so much we have booked a 14 day cruise with her again for March 11 of next year.
