snorkeling in GC

Looking a for nice beach that we could snorkel at?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The only beach that we have done without a tour was cemetary beach and the snorkeling was just so so. There are several spots that are supposed to be good near the pier but they are not beaches per se. Cheeseburger Reef and Eden Rock are two that come to mind. Then there are a couple of ships and a crashed plane that are close that are good. Google snorkel spots for GC and see what comes up.

I honestly don't know how the snorkeling is on the majority of 7 mile beach besides what is listed above.

No need to take a shore excursion to snorkel in GC. When you get off the tender, walk to the right along the waterfront to Eden Rock. You can use the ladder there to access the water and they will rent equipment, sell fish food, rent lockers, etc.

Jack Rackham's restaurant also has a ladder to access the water. From here swim out toward the buoy to see an old shipwreck (not much in the way of fish though...)

To the left from the tender piers, Cheeseburger Reef, out from the Burger King, is great for fish (most of the shore excursion boats go here, just a short swim from shore).

Further to the left (about a 10-minute walk) is the wreck of the Gamma, a small freighter whose wreckage is visible onshore. Lots of fish around here.

I used info from this website and had no issues snorkeling from shore on my own.

Note that the good snorkeling spots are not "beach" spots per se. To have a sandy beach, you generally don't have much rock, and therefore not much in the way of coral or fish.

Just past Eden Rock is Smith's Bay, another popular snorkel spot. Search for reviews (mainly on the Grand Cayman forum on tripadvisor) for the best areas.

If you have time for a jet ski excursion that offers a couple different snorkel stops look at Fat Fash Adventures - simply one of the best outfits on the island.
