Emdee Posted December 4, 2012 #26 Share Posted December 4, 2012 What do you mean by "points guy"?
twin123185 Posted December 5, 2012 #27 Share Posted December 5, 2012 There is a blogger who calls himself the points guy. many others out there too. I hope you don't pay someone - there is soooo much free advice here and on the web! The $5600 upgrade to business class - I hope that was for 2 people and not per person! NCCruzQueen Posted December 5, 2012 #28 Share Posted December 5, 2012 I hope you don't pay someone - there is soooo much free advice here and on the web! Twin, with two unrelated people sharing points traveling from two different locations, the points guy we used was very helpful. Emdee, there is the blog for The Points Guy. http://thepointsguy.com/
FlightMedic555 Posted December 5, 2012 #29 Share Posted December 5, 2012 It is possible to obtain award tickets and upgrades, as per the airline rules, without using a third party. Unfortunately you do have to educate yourself as to the nuances of this which may not be worthwhile for everyone. I have spent a good amount of time on various websites and blogs (including the points guy) and I learned a great deal. I can understand that for some obtaining award seats can be confusing and time consuming. For me I enjoy the challenge.
ALB0711 Posted December 6, 2012 #30 Share Posted December 6, 2012 flyertalk dot com is a good place for tricks and tips using different mileage programs. It is to flying as Cruisecritic is to cruising for me.
Emdee Posted December 6, 2012 #31 Share Posted December 6, 2012 Flyer talk is wonderful. We do our own FF tickets with dry runs with the airline and then final booking ourselves. Usually we have to change as the newer flights get uploaded for return and incur some charges - but what is $200-300 for three or four charges when your ticket is worth 16,000 for First!
