attire for kids at night

My son was 10 when we sailed the Dawn last summer. The first night, we were told at the restaurant that he could wear shorts (I think it was Impressions). The rest of the time - he wore the same outfit for dinner every night! Dockers and a button-down Hawaiian shirt. He put it on right before dinner and took it off right after. He was happy - and nobody noticed. We brought dress shoes, but he just wore his black skateboard shoes every night. Never a problem.

We sailed the SEA in March and had boys aged 11 - 14 with us. They wore either cotton pants (Khaki) or light weight cords with either a golf shirt or a button down shirt. None wore dress shoes, either they wore their runners, sandals or skateboarding shoes. After dinner they would change back into their shorts and hit the basketball court.
