Rum, local art or handicraft - what would you experienced cruisers recommend?

rum cake...right at at the port. We met our "shopper" from the ship in the store and she was buying a bunch. Shes like good call guys, this is the BEST rum cake ever, I send it home all the time.

Agapey chocolate, made on the island, sold at Taste of Barbados in the terminal. Same place that sells the rum cake.

Mount Gay rum , the good stuff - higher proof and aged, is sold at the distillery.

If you like hot sauce - try Amanda's Bajan Pepper Sauce - nice mix of flavor and heat.

I concur with the previous postings--recommending RUM CAKE as a souvenier.

 

It comes in a variety of several sizes, making wonderful, small, inexpensive gifts.

(easily positioned in suitcases).

 

IMO, the quality of the rum cake varies greatly, so consider that when purchasing.

 

There are tons of touristy souveniers, in an adjacent building to the pier.

You will find Barbados printed on any item that you can imagine, of course.

You can always check out the local artists at Pelican Village, which is just south of the south port gates by the roundabout.

I found beautiful picture frames . also rum cakes ...I always get them ...vanilla and hot sauce

Vanilla~that's where I buy mine, a few bottles each cruise, makes my cookies so yummy and you can still smell the vanilla after the cookies are baked! You can buy it right in the port terminal.

Ladies might like some body lotion from the West indian soap company, The coconut one smells divine.You can buy it at the pier with all the other souveniers.

Definitely some Earthworks pottery...it's beautiful!

 

I also like to bring home:

Eclipse crackers

Frutee (my daughter loves this and loves to try different sodas from around the world).

Brown Sugar (so delicious)

Sorrel syrup

Jill Walker art (love the plastic trays).
