puntarenas taxi?

Dear cruisers;

Has anyone taken a taxi at Puntarenas port?

We are thinking to take a taxi to Carara rainforest and back.

How much do you think it will be to hire a taxi for 4 hours?

Actual plan is to take taxi to the Carara rainforeat and keep the taxi waiting for couple of hours and take the taxi back to the port and also stop by at a super market for 1/2 hour on the way back.

We thank you in advance for your reply.

When I was there a few weeks ago there were a number of independent operators offering tours and such in the pier area. I did not really look at any of them so I can't give any info on price or what tours they were offering.

We just experienced a wonderful day with Alvero and Juan, touring the rivers and mountains of Puntarenas. They knew all of the right places, where the wildlife was, where to eat, shop, and stop along the way for a unique encounter with sugar cane. We give our highest endorsement to Odyssey in Costa Rica

Thank you Mr.& Mrs. Moor

Glad to hear that you had a great experience with Odyssey Tour.

We too had a great tour in Costa Rica. Before our cruise, we end up booking a tour with Vic from Vic-Tours. www.victourscr.com

There are also many taxi drivers and tour personals waiting just out side of the gate. The walk to the gate was about 10 minutes. Also there are free trolley taking people between the ship and gate about every 10 minutes or so.

We want to share our experience in Puntarenas as we had a wonderful time there.

We wanted to explore Carara national forest to see many animals and birds. He was the perfect person for that since Vic is based in the Carara and very knowledgeable Naturalist.

We started as soon as the ship docked at the port since many animals are most active early in the morning. We wore long sleeves and long pants and good trekking shoes to go little bid deeper into the forest. Mid December was end of rainy season and the ground was not so wet. We did not have any difficulty walking in the forest. We saw Capuchin monkeys, scarlet macaws, ferdelance snake, leaf cutter ants, bullet ants, toucans, humming birds, agouti, and many other animals and birds and also many fauna of the jungle.

Vic explained about animals and birds and eco system of Costa Rica as we explored the jungle. On our drive back to the ship he quizzed us on the different animals and general biology of the Jungle and things that we had learned in our time together, it was great fun, we really paid attention when he lectured us during our tour so we were well prepared to answer most of his questions, it was great fun to try to remember everything but he is the master and eventually tripped us up with some really difficult questions, the drive back can be a bit boring and we enjoyed the game very much.

We highly recommend him to every one who is looking to have a great tour in Puntarenas.
