scapel Posted December 17, 2012 #28 Share Posted December 17, 2012 Dileep, Great pictures. Happy you & Ann got to do the trip. Fly over on the Hercules and back on the BAE-146. They let the Hercules land when the BAE may or may not. When we were there trying to get out, the Hercules landed first then they let the BAE land. Anxious to see a full report and see if you go swimming again. So now that you have done the Antarctic two ways, which in your opinion was the best. We were dropped off with the C-130 and picked up 5 days later by the BAE 146. We did not go to Deception Island, which was fine with me since I had taken that plunge before! I have over 5000 pictures to look through. We had great weather this time, but we got to see South Georgia last time. We had more fun this time. With just 53 passengers, we had a lot more time at each landing and did not feel rushed!
2552phxcrzr Posted December 18, 2012 #30 Share Posted December 18, 2012 Waiting to board in Rio Gallegos, Argentina Luggage being loaded Up in the air Inside view landed The runway! Those pics look like the ones we took on our Natl Guard flight from Salt Lake City to Honolulu, except that we were aboard an air refueling jet and there weren't as many people. dileep Posted December 23, 2012 Author #36 Share Posted December 23, 2012 Dec 10 was an exciting day in Antarctica! We started with a talk about penguins by Andre, followed by our first continental landing at Portal Point, on a stunning & sunny day. We got the opportunity to hike in different directions and have a fabulous view of the surrounding glaciers. Portal Point (Coordinates: 64°30′S 61°46′W) is a narrow point in the northeast part of Reclus Peninsula, on the west coast of Graham Land, where a hut was established in 1956 as a "gateway" of the expedition route.
