Carnival Dream Sewage Smell.....

We have been on Dream four times and have smelled it a couple of times near the center elevators. Having said that, we have been on other lines, IE Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, HAL and have smelled the same thing at different times.

There are those who make a big deal out of it. I do think part of the time it's people flushing things that shouldn't be. As long as people don't care what is put in the toilets, there will be the problem. As far as getting sick, I think the man whose wife got ill, be prepared to have the same thing on other ships, other lines. It's not a unique problem to Dream.

After 27 cruises on five different lines with no problems?

That's a bit of stretch don't you think? Even the hardiest of cheerleaders can't connect those dots...

Hey, enjoy whatever reality you choose to inhabit. None of my bidness.

We just left the Dream today after an awesome 7 days. We had a cove balcony midship room. We did smell the sewage several days very strong in the hallway but not in our room. We would occasionally get wiffs on other decks as well. I was surprised as I had not read the posts on cc. A few bad smells are not enough to spoil my vacation. I really liked the Dream!

We were on the Dream 3 times.

October 2011 did not smell.

May 2012 it was very bad around the water slide area.

October 2012 it was getting worse - on open deck 11 above the Gathering and one night at the centrium.

On a hot day it is not a pleasure to smell it..while it would not ruin my cruise but Carnval should get serious about fix this problem.

We were on the Octobr 20th sailing, in a cove balcony and the "smell" on Deck 2 was there from the first day we boarded and it got worse as the week went on.

thank goodness around the area of our room it wasn't as bad, but just up the hall from us it would make you sick to walk through it.

Not sure what the problem is, but wish they could figure it out....

I'm not trying to give you a hard time as I think the smell is awful. I said also that I smelled it near the center elevators. I am just saying that you may smell the same thing on other cruises, not just on Carnival Dream. Believe me, I am NOT a Carnival cheerleader.

Ditto that. We were on the same cruise and our cabin was in the same area and we smelled it several times too.....but never in the cabin. It didn't affect the cruise at all.

I have read about a sewage smell on almost every different cruise line's threads. Something cruise critic posters love to perpetuate for whatever reason...and once someone posts it on a review hundreds of others jump on the bandwagon and post the same thing. The power of suggestion I think.

Numerous previous reports of olfactory issues onboard Carnival Dream were not due to the power of suggestion.

I experienced three separate sailings on that ship. For two of those' date=' my cabin was on Main Deck (Deck 2) on the [u']starboard[/u] side, and there were issues every single day, at various times of the day. Port side rooms seemed to have far less problem. My cabin steward, the Housekeeping Manager, Guest Services Manager, and Hotel Director all admitted that there was an ongoing challenge, and it was being researched. Not one person attempted to sweep anything under the rug to suggest the issue didn't exist.

I'm glad that many people say they've been able to go through their week onboard without experiencing any unpleasant smells. Deck 2 is not one that a lot of people visit if their own cabins are on a higher deck.

I do not know, or care, if that issue has been resolved. It can no longer affect me in any way . . . but it most certainly did at the time.

I have been on the Dream twice, March 2011 and 2012. We stayed in the same Cove Balcony both times, port side, midship, closer to forward. We smelled it both cruises in the hallways, never in our cabins. Also smelled it in the elevator lobby on our floor. It was only a passing smell, and only a few times each cruise. I have also experienced this in hotels in the hallways. Not enough to make me not want to cruise the Dream again and no worse than putting up with the DH's "bathroom smells".

We were on the Dream in July of 2011. I had also read all the reviews regarding the sewage smell and was worried a little about it. My conclusion...We had a wonderful cruise, the ship is beautiful and I never smelled any sewage odor the whole week. Have a fabulous week!

That's fair. By the same token you MAY smell it at Olive Garden which has no logical basis for smelling it onboard a cruiseship.

Twenty seven cruises aboard twenty different cruiseships does.

You may also smell juniper or patouli oil depending upon where you're standing. To tell folks that the effluent smell is an exaggeration is a disservice as I can attest to.

My wife has changed the majority of our two sons' diapers and I can assure you she is not weak in that fashion.

My point is that Carnival is aware of this particular problem but chooses not to address it. Glean whatever info from that as you like. The fact remains...

We just got back from the Dream yesterday. We had a Cove balcony and YES the smell is there. We smelled it quite frequently. And smelled in the the area between the Casino and walking to the back of the ship. Right where the "map" of the position of the ship is. It only lasts a brief second, but enough to the noticeable. Did it spoil our cruise? NO ! ! !, but the smell IS there.

I think this is an ongoing problem with most cruise ships. I remember once on Spirit that it smelled for 2 days. I know they do their best to correct plumbling problems as soon as they occur. All it takes is one dope to throw something down the toilet to stop up half the floor for a couple hours but I agree that sometimes the vent system is the culpruit. Either way it is not a pleasant situation.

  • 2 months later...

Just got back from a cruise on the Carnival Breeze. The sewage smell is not exaggerated. It is mostly around the aft part of the ship on the top decks. It was awful. It is prominent all the time. Our cabin was in the middle to front of the ship and we could not smell it, so we were ok. All of Decks 3,4 and 5 were ok. I would pick another ship untill they get this solved. There is many more to choose from so why risk it.
