MissyMac13 Posted November 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2012 I have read the Carnival policy about boarding with family/friends who may not be platinum and how that works, but I have seen nothing about special boarding for handicapped individuals. We'll be traveling on Splendor in December with a family and one of the family members uses a scooter/wheelchair to move. Does Carnival have special boarding for them? Thanks in advance for the information.
fla2nc Posted November 26, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2012 Yes they have a special boarding area for anyone in a wheelchair or a scooter & family traveling together can board with the person as well. Maybe it depends on the port...on the Dream 11/17 in Port Canaveral...the entire families boarded with the person...saw several families doing this... iluvdoxies Posted November 26, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 26, 2012 I think it's 1 per family - not the whole fam damly
pattimelt Posted November 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 26, 2012 I cruise on a normal basis with a total of 5 of us, 4 plus me, one of whom is in a wheelchair. All of us are allowed to board together, same room or not. And when friends arrive at the port at the same time, they come on board with us with no problems.. It MAY depend on the port, though, is what I am thinking..
boomonster Posted November 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 27, 2012 My MIL is in a scooter and she was escorted to the elevators in Miami . I went with her since she had never cruised before .The lady who escorted us there flagged the whole family to come on. May be luck of the draw but was kinda nice being 1 of the first people on the boat.

Contact our Guest Access Department {formerly known as Special Needs} at 1-800-438-6744 Extension 70025 9 – 5:30 PM ET They can give you specific information and note the booking as well since they will need to let the ship know prior to your boarding. RWolver672 Posted November 27, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 27, 2012 From our experience cruising out of NOLA in 2003 on the Conquest, one person was allowed to be with the person in the wheelchair for early boarding. The rest of us had to wait for normal boarding. By that, I would say that it depends on the port.
bucks724 Posted November 27, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 27, 2012 Our cruises are family reunions and it's one of the few times we see my parents per year (we go every other year). My dad has a defibrillator/pacemaker and can't go through "regular" security screening. When he produced his card the last time, they pulled him aside and wanded him, and then pulled our whole group aside and we boarded together. Granted, it was my family of 3, plus 4 of their best friends from high school, and my parents. But we rode the shuttle together, stayed at the same hotel, and walked in together. So I guess they assumed we wanted to stay together. It wasn't a big deal to us (although we wanted to take our embarkation picture together because my mom eats that stuff up) but Carnival invited us all to go through together. It may help that it was VERY early and the line wasn't very long to begin with. And we were still in Zone 8 for boarding.
