Gatwick Airport: Transportation from Southampton

We are sailing on the QM2, and will arrive in Southampton. I plan to purchase the London Plus Pass for 4 days, and will base ourselves in Southampton. Our flight leaves from Gatwick. How does the train go to Gatwick Airport? Do you have to change trains anywhere? Or should we arrange other transportation?

Am also on the QM2 in Aug... tho staying in London after the cruise (taking VSOE transfer Southampton to Victoria).

 

Do a search on Cunard forum .. someone there recently found a service from London to the ship as they were staying in London before the cruise. Not sure about the other-way around!

 

The obvious, tho longer solution would be to take the train into London and then the Gatwick Express from Victoria Station. It also may be a 'long schlep' of luggage at Victoria between trains.
