We have been to the south end and NZ, so this time we thought to do a 10 day south island NZ and combine it with a cruise of Australia!!!

I cant seem to find any reviews and comments about the east side up to Great Barrier Reef---possibly Rhapsody or Radiance of the Seas

any help or sggestions?

thanks frank

We have just come down the east coast of Australia on the Diamond Princess on the Bangkok to Sydney cruise. The ships use the inside passage of the Great Barrier Reef and if you are sailing north then a balcony on the port side is the go with a starboard side balcony if sailing south. You pass within 800 metres of some islands and the actual reef itself, spectacular!!! We stopped at Port Douglas for a day and tendered ashore. It was quite choppy and uncomfortable in the tenders. Some people went on reef cruises and diving while others did the Kuranda Scenic rail trip from Cairns to Kuranda. Others just did their own thing.

This was our first cruise along the East Coast and we will certainly being doing another one in the future.

Princess & RCCL do cruises around Australia & NZ, we did the 33 day cruise on the Sea Princess in october this year around Aus and across to NZ and back to Sydney....we had a good time and if you have the time i would rather do that than a 10 day cruise up the coast of Australia

you can do your research and see whats best for you, they both do pretty much the same itinerary except for a few different ports

we can recommend Rhapsody for your cruise. We did 11 nights in Mar'11 which was great - it was our 1st ever cruise and we are going for our 4th in a few weeks. On Rhapsody we overnighted in Cairns (docked, which I don;t think Radiance can do) which was great as it gave us 2 days to explore from there. We went out to the reef from Airlie beach - catamran directly from the ship. Crusing down the insdie passage of the reef was fantastic.
