lostone65 Posted December 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2012 :confused:I hope someone can shed some light on the upgrade special they are running now. We are looking at the Breakaway but they are offering the same deal on other ships. They are offering an upgrade from a mini suite to a family mini suite. The only difference I can find is the family mini suite is close to the kids club. Not un upgrade for us since we no longer have children at home and will not be sailing with children. In fact it seems like a downgrade because it will most likely be loud with children arriving and leaving. Am I missing something here?
LadyShiva Posted December 30, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2012 Nope. Seems like you sized up the situation perfectly to me.
Rare insidecabin Posted December 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2012 this a fairly common approach with UK marketing of NCL cruises. All the cabin in a type(inside,OV,bacony, mini) are the same price for all catagories within the type.
chloe173 Posted December 30, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2012 I think you're missing the bigger picture. The upgrades within a category aren't exciting, but the ones between categories can be pretty fantastic. So, for example, you could upgrade from a B3 to an MB for free. Of course, on the Breakaway, nothing is really that good of a deal, since the prices are nearly double what they are even on the Epic. But on my cruise this April on the 4-night Sky, I ended up saving nearly 25% of my fare by switching my reservation from a Balcony to an Oceanview Picture Window, which then got the auto-upgrade to a regular Balcony. Kept the same room and everything, just took a five minute phone call.
roger001 Posted December 30, 2012 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2012 On the Pearl and Jewel, as far as I can tell, all minis are the same...just location difference.

Demonyte Posted December 30, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 30, 2012 That is my pet peeve with the way NCL has their categories ordered; family cabins are rated higher than regular cabins even if the location would be worse. We got "upgraded" once from deck 8 OA GTY to a deck 5 O1 under the casino which in NCL's books is a "higher" cat cabin. I wasn't pleased and paid to have a real upgrade myself.
