Oosterdam Veranda Mid Ship

Cruise Arizona

Recommended Posts

They're just below the level of your deck - So if you look down, you won't be able to see the side of the ship or very much of the open Promenade (Does that really matter terribly much?)

But if you straight look out, you'll definitely see the ocean.

Does anybody have pictures taken from the mid ship Veranda Deck on the Oosterdam, or similar ship. I am just curious if the life boats that are below affect the views in any way?

I have photos taken by myself and other Cruise Critic Members of several of the Verandah Deck staterooms with the Life Boats below them. You can check them out at the links below:)

Oosterdam VF 5054 Deluxe Verandah Ocean View Stateroom Deck 5 Verandah Deck approximately half way down the page http://abqreunion2008.com/Oosterdam/Deck-5.html

Noordam VF 5128 Deluxe Verandah Oceanview Stateroom Deck 5 Verandah Deck1/2 way down the page: http://abqreunion2008.com/Noordam/Deck-5.html

Westerdam VE 5098 Deluxe Verandah Ocean View Stateroom Deck 5 Verandah Deck 1/2 way down the page http://abqreunion2008.com/Westerdam/Deck-5.html

Zuiderdam VE 5091 Deluxe Verandah Ocean View Stateroom Deck 5 Verandah Deck 1/2 way down the page http://abqreunion2008.com/Zuiderdam/Deck-5.html

As said by bepsf, you can see nothing of the life boats unless you are looking straioght down, EXCEPT on the Noordam. But since you asked about Oosterdam I listed it 1st. Westerdam and Zuiderdam are almost duplicates, so..

Joanie thank you so much. I was trying to which would be better, especially for Alaska. It was between a room on the Upper Promenade with the metal barrier or the Veranda Deck mid ship with the glass barrier is much better!!!

And thanks to others that responded too. I was pretty sure the glass barriers was better, but wanted to make sure.

You are quite welcome!!

Now if it were me having to make the decision for the first time, I would choose the Verandah Deck mid ship above the life boats!! Even if you go to a higher deck Mid Ship, the life boats will still be there. Look at it this way; IF there is any reason to have to evacuate the ship (God Forbid!!) you could literally jump on one:) IT IS A JOKE PEOPLE!! So Please no Flames:)

My reasoning is that the entire time I was out on the verandah I looked out to sea and at the views as we went by them. The only time I looked down was to see the Glacier Ice Bergs as they floated by us.... Beautiful!!

Thanks for posting these links Joanie! I have been attempting to see this since we booked our cabins (5082 & 5084) on the Noordam. Our cruise leaves in a few days on the 7th.

Based on what I can see, it appears the boats will be very visible from our balconies. A little bit disappointing, but we won't let it ruin the cruise. We are hosting my brother-in-law and sister-in-law for their first cruise. So, being able to look straight down and see the people scurrying back to the ship as we prepare to leave ports, would have been fun.. but just a minor distraction.

This will be our first time on this deck... we will see if we avoid it on futre sailings.

Happy New Year to ALL !!!!

Cheers.... Denny (& Karen) :confused::p
