Ivan & David Mayan Ruin Tour - Highly Recommended!

Our family just returned from a cruise on the Explorer of the Seas which included a stop in Costa Maya. After reading all of the recommendations online for the Chacchoben Mayan ruin tour with Ivan and David - we booked with them.

 

It was the highlight of our enitre week. Ivan was our tour guide - we went on an a/c van - very comfortable. There were only 10 of us. They provided water for us. Ivan talked in depth about the history of the area, the ruins and the Mayan people - but he also told us about what it meant to be a Mayan, lessons that were passed down to him by parents and grandparents. It was all so interesting and thought provoking. We learned so much! More than you get out of reading a history book. It was like a window into the past.

 

We are recommending this tour with Ivan and David to everyone - and if we return to the area we will book it again.

 

So many people booked with the ship - they were herded around like cattle - with a guide that had to learn the information - and had not experienced it first hand. Book with Ivan and David - you won't regret it!!!!

I too just took a tour with Ivan. The day we went one of thier vans had a flat tire on the way back from the ruins but Ivan went above and beyond toi get us there, our group had 14 people. He made arrangements with the local cabs to take us all there & back so off we went. Once there Ivan gave us a great tour and he is such a delightful man....very informative and you can tell he loves his home. there were a couple of busses there when we arrived but we did do our tour alone with just our group. Ivan then took everyone to luch at a local village. Unfortuanlty we missed that because our cab driver got lost so we just went back to the village. I would book with them again too, even though we ended up in cabs it was just so nice that Ivan went out of his way to make our tour happen. He also gave us the option of getting our money back and not taking the tour but no one did. Ivan & David are truely good people...the tour was great but it was so hot and a bit long, I think he took a little extra time because of the whole van issue. It was aslo easy to find them in the village, Majahaul. They were at the first resturaunt once you get to the town, very easy!

If you are thinking of taking the tour with them do.....its worth the small amount you pay!
