cavydad Posted January 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2013 In Europe credit cards can only be used if they have a chip. Credit cards that are issued in the United States do not have a chip. Does Argentina requie a chip or any feature not required in the United States?

Does Argentina requie a chip or any feature not required in the United States? If you are in the larger cities outside the US then MOST (not all) places that accept credit cards will take your card. As you get more rural the number accepting non EC cards declines as does the number accepting ANY credit card. About 50% of ATMs require an "EC" chip. The motto is keep cash with you - clean unmarked notes from home. There are about 50 or so cards issued with an EC chip by almost every issuer. If you travel overseas a lot and travel in rural areas or smaller towns - get one. FYI - EC chips will be required on every card in about 4 years or so.
