Looking for some insight from anyone that has done 7 Mile Beach Break at Tiki Beach

We are looking to do just the beach at Grand Cayman and I am looking for some info on the ship excursion. Backround is that last year we were there on the Solstice and took a cab and told him we wanted to go to the beach and he took us to the public beach, and was NOT what we were looking for!

Our fault, as we didn't know where to tell him to go.

We have been to GC many times and have usually done ship excursions, and we are usually happy with them as we are the type that like structure versus "on your own"

We are looking for nice beach, facilities, and most important that we WILL have a chair and an UMBRELLA. We want the sun but our husbands REQUIRE shade--will we get this with the ship excursion.

The other place I am looking at is the Royal Palms, which from the info that I have found sounds makes it seem like what we are looking for.

Any info or suggestions -greatly appreciated.

You can do Royal Palms on your own. They do have chairs and umbrellas...............which you have to pay for......cannot remember the price. It can get crowded so get there early. They also have facilities and food service (at least 2 years ago). Have been there many times. Always transportation available to and from. Didn't go this year so do not know if they charge "admission" But do check the ports of call.

We took the excursion on our Dec 15 - 19, 2012 cruise on the Connie.

The excursion comes with a bus tour around town and to Hell -- which is nothing special other than the fact that you can now tell people that you've really been to hell. There were some larva rocks or something.... but really, nothing impressive.

There were people who bought postcards and sent them home to family/friends from the adjacent post office that will give you a postmark from Hell. You'll also be taken to a store that sells the famous rum cakes and get a few free samples. The last stop is Tiki Beach.

You will get 3 tickets -- one each for entrance, chair, and a drink.

The day we were there, Dec 17th I believe, there were 6 ships in port and it was very crowded at Tiki Beach (we were told by our guide that on average, there are 4 ships in Grand Cayman each day). Deck chairs were packed side by side, not as close as the pool deck on the ship, but pretty close.

Tiki Beach is VERY rocky and is not suitable for swimming. Your excursion guide/ticket will recommend water shoes -- and you do need them. Overall, it's nice, but we've probably been to a few better beaches in the Caribbean.
