Change machines at the Miami International Airport?

Where I live, US dollars in $1 and $5 denominations are not that easy to come by (I'd have to order them at least 2 weeks in advance from my bank). But I will need A LOT of small bills for tips and such over the course of my vacation, starting with the taxi ride to the hotel.

Does anyone know if there are machines at the Miami airport that will break $20s into small bills? I realize that I could go to a coffee shop or convenience store and pay for a small purchase with a large bill, but such businesses don't usually appreciate when customers do that so I'd prefer to use a machine that is specifically set up for that purpose if I can find one.

Don't worry about it. First off the taxi cab should be able to make change for you. They keep small bills on purpose so you can leave some for him.l:D

Secondly, just go to any shop or bar and ask for change. Bars are a good bet because usually the waitstaff are looking to 'trade up' the smaller bills.

Thirdly, If you want just go to any shop and ask for change. Its common courtesy here in the states, much more so at an airport. If you feel obligated, go ahead and make a small purchase...nobody will look at you funny.

I havent seen a change machine at the airport, but then again, never thought to look for one.

Thank you for your response, Yogi. It's good to know that Miami cabbies are normally able to make change. The ones in my city never seem to be able to break a $20. Handy for them when the cab fare only comes to $13, right?

Your suggestion about the bar might work - we typically hit the hay before the bar scene fires up but our pre-cruise hotel probably has a bar we could check.

I imagine I'll need roughly $100 in $1s and $5s to cover 2 weeks worth of tour guide tips and the occasional small souveniere. Sounds like I'll have to place an order with my bank (sigh).

I believe there are several currency exchange booths in scattered throughout MIA. I think there might even be a bank branch or two.

Another possible alternative would be to get some change in the casino once you're onboard your ship (though that wouldn't help for your travel prior to boarding).

If you are staying in a pre-cruise hotel, they can probably direct you to a local bank for those small bills.

Trilllian,

You are way over thinking this. When you arrive, go to a bar closest to the gate and see if they will make change. Or go make a small purchase and get your change that way.

Once you are at the hotel, the front desk will make all kinds of change for you.

On the ship either the casino as mentioned or the pursers desk will make all the change you could ever need/want.

HAVE A FANTASTIC CRUISE!
