Chelly Posted January 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Are there Stingray tours for non-swimmers (waist deep water)? Thanks
Chalker Guy Posted January 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Most are suitable for non-swimmers, waist deep water on a sand bar. Captain Marvin's is good, there are several others also good.

luvmycruzez Posted January 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2013 We went to Stingray City/Sandbar on our first trip to GC, and one of the adults in our party could not swim. Water is about waist deep, and she loved it! It's a great experience.
Colorado Kat Posted January 14, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2013 Depending on the height of the person, waist to chest deep water. Lifevests available. They can also sit on the back edge of the boat & dangle feet in the water.
birdy Posted January 15, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 15, 2013 I have used Captain Marvin's twice before and will again in Feb. I highly recommend them.
CruzieSue Posted January 21, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2013 We used Moby Dick last March 2012 and are booked with them again for this coming March. :D I am 5'6" and the water depth varied from about 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 feet - or say from waist to arm pits. It was a little wavy that day (don't know if that is normal or not), sometimes a good wave would knock you off balance a little bit but there was never a problem going under water unless you choose to. Our excursion also included a snorkle stop so they will have the inflatable vest some people use snorkeling - probably would not mind if the non-swimmer used one of those for a little extra security. QLUVS2CRUZ Posted January 21, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 21, 2013 We did the Moby Dick tour our first time to Grand Cayman and loved it...booked again for our last cruise that went there...and they didn't show up. There were about 10 of us (not all in the same party) waiting for 45 minutes, under their sign at the pier. The water was choppy and the excursions to Stingray City had to be delayed a bit, but we still expected someone to be there to tell us this and when they might be back...nope. We all went to find another vendor to take us on the excursion - and I like to research and make sure I'm going with someone good, but this time we just had to pick something available. I know things can happen, but I still think someone could have been there to tell all of us there would be no tour. Very disappointed...I recommended Moby to so many people, and I won't do it again. I learned my lesson that I should research a backup plan!
Rare bobmacliberty Posted January 30, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 30, 2013 Here's a picture of Stingray City from 2010 that might help:
monicajay Posted January 30, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2013 As a non-swimmer you might feel more comfortable with a smaller boat, fewer passengers and more individual attention. I wouldn't want to be in the water with the group in the previous picture.
BooandBay Posted January 31, 2013 #11 Share Posted January 31, 2013 We just did this excursion and at times the water was waist deep and then at times it was chest deep. I am 5'1" and when I stepped off the boat it was over my head. Had to walk on out a little further as the waves were pretty bad that day but it was well worth it!! edmusic Posted February 1, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2013 Non swimmers did just fine when we went with Moby Dick in 2011. They limit the number of people on board; when we went, there were only 13 of us.

Ehpride Posted February 8, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 8, 2013 We went with stingraysailing.com and where we went, it was just waist deep. You don't have to get off at the snorkel stop either.
fantasy1029 Posted March 24, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 24, 2013 My hubby and I are doing the dolphin encounter & stingray city in August. I can't swim but really wanted to do something that included animals. I will admit that I'm slightly nervous.
