lv2cruz80 Posted June 2, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2004 We went to Miller's beach a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. We're beach bums so all we wanted was a nice beach on which to relax and have a tropical drink. I believe we went to the Hyatt and used their facilities Until the Constellation! springy2004 Posted June 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 2, 2004 There isn't a Hyatt in Antigua - infact on Millers there aren't any hotels. The next beach along is called Runaway Bay - it is a huge stretch of unbroken sand - and you can go to a beach bar, restaurant and hotel called Bikini's - they ahve just changed names. You can eat lunch, get drinks, and use facilities which include shade and umbrellas - and its only a 15 minute taxi ride from the cruise ship dock. If you need more info their e-mail is info@bikinisantigua.com You'll love it their really loaid back - and cheap. Den Field
lv2cruz80 Posted June 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Sorry- I looked back at my photos and realized it was a Hyatt in St. Lucia. However, we really liked Miller's beach and we somehow had rented chairs and got drinks. GypsyOBRN Posted June 5, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Thank you for your good suggestions, we haven't decided as yet what we will do when we get to Antiqua, we want to still decide on which islands to do shore excursions and which ones we want to just go to a nice beach. But your information will help us with our decision. OCruisers Posted June 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2004 GypsyOBRN .... Our absolutely favorite beach in Antigua is Long Bay. The sand is "sugar white"! We always go there for our day-at-the-beach when we have been lucky enough to have been there on business. LOVE IT! There's a very good review on this board by Wordsmith if you scroll a bit or just "click" below: RAVE FOR LONG BAY BEACH For sure .... We recommend this if you want to go to the beach On-Your-Own! Hope it helps! Happy Sailing! GypsyOBRN Posted June 6, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted June 6, 2004 OCruisers, I looked up the beach in the pictures on webshots, there was many of the Long Bay Beach Hotel and the beach... it is very beautiful! Thanks you for suggesting it! How long of a taxi ride is it? Did you happen to eat at the hotel there and if so how was it? OCruisers Posted June 10, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 10, 2004 Beth .... Had hoped someone else would answer because we have never been to Long Beach DIRECTLY from the cruise ship dock. Long Beach is where we go for our "day at the beach" when we are in Antigua on business. It is our very favorite so we never hesitate to recommend it! Long Beach is across the island from the cruise dock so would think it would take about 30 minutes. The taxis are NOT metered so you would need to discuss the price with the driver. At least, the taxi drivers in Antigua are REALLY nice there and like to help! Probably, it'll be about $25 for a taxi each way. (A taxi will hold up to 4 people.) We've never had a full meal there BUT the drinks have always been good! They do a variety of small fried seafood appertizers and that's what we normally order. Hope this will help a bit ... and that someone else will answer as well! Happy Sailing! Jamgirl Posted August 1, 2004 #10 Share Posted August 1, 2004 Long Bay Beach is about 20 mintutes from the ship dock. th taxis here in Antigua are well versed in doing the Cruise ship passengers so they know to come back on time and also where to recommend. meyerhaus Posted August 3, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 3, 2004 I whole-heartedly recommend Long Bay. We were going to go to Five Points, but the taxi driver told us that this time of year, the resort is closed and he said we should go to Long Bay...I am so glad that he did. It was wonderful...like out of a perfect postcard. ...I miss it...alot...:(
cei3 Posted August 3, 2004 #12 Share Posted August 3, 2004 How far is the taxi ride from the pier to the Jolly Beach resort and how much should it cost?
Jamgirl Posted August 4, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 4, 2004 :) Long Bay is about 25 minutes from the pier and the cost is US $22.00 for 1-4 persons. Jolly Harbour is about 20 minutes and the cost might be the same. Jolly Harbour is a great beach along with Darkwood which is in the same area just 6 minutes pass Jolly Harbour. Remember for taxis check www.qualityci.com and check weather, information, pictures, properties & lands & other stuff www.classified-ads-antigua.com:rolleyes:
Denfield Posted August 24, 2004 #14 Share Posted August 24, 2004 Just wanted to make sure its clear that it isn't 20 ir 25 minutes - and you can always stop off at Betty's Hope - one of the first sugar plantations on the island - between Nov to May they have a little museum - its fascinating if you're in to that kind of thing. Jamgirl Posted September 3, 2004 #15 Share Posted September 3, 2004 You can also visit Devil's Bridge while at Long bay www.classified-ads-antigua.com But I recommend if you are person that likes beaches not to take the tour to Nelson's Dockyard unless you want to go to Pigeon Point beach.:)
