HawkeyeTraveler Posted January 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2013 Are we able to use Skype onboard the 20 January trip? Otherwise, what are best options to make occasional phone calls with our 4Gs? Thanks, Vicki

Often access is blocked but sometimes it is accessible, it is rather like the upgrade fairy because no-one really knows.
bazzaw Posted January 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2013 Many cruiseships I have been on specifically ask (with BIG signs) that passengers do not use Skype onboard. The Internet bandwidth on these ships is poor enough without people using it all up with Skype. If just a few people use it, you can kiss goodbye to being able to send/receive emails or other such mundane Internet tasks.
Magnetchief Posted January 16, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2013 If they were really bothered about skype affecting the bandwidth then they would block it via the ships system. I could see them blocking all VOIP as it takes revenue away from them.
Underwatr Posted January 16, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2013 Find a free/cheap WiFi hotspot in a port and skype to your heart's content.
HawkeyeTraveler Posted January 16, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted January 16, 2013 Thanks, all. Think we'll be looking for a WiFi spot in port. Works for me. Vicki
