Need to book a stay near the port in New Orleans leaving on the Conquest in March. Does anyone know the area well enough to tell me the "area" name so I can do a search and find one close by? I also get a free night, 3-star stay with Hotwire since I booked with them if you know a good three star hotel.

We have stayed at the Hilton RiverWalk twice and we loved it. Basically next door to the ship. We went to the Riverwalk and took pictures of our ship as it was disembarking and if there are ships there the day before, great place to watch them leave. If you have a room high enough facing the water you can watch it sail in too. Lots of things to do within walking distance.

This is the area closest to the port. This area basically encompasses everything across the street from the Convention Center and about 6 blocks deep. The cruise ship docks behind the Convention Center.

I use Price-line in this area about 2 nights a month. I usually get the Residence Inn, the Courtyard ,or the Hyatt Place for around $55-60 per night. Any of the 3 star or above in this area should be OK.

Hotwire gives you an area and a star level. You pay when You book and then they give you the name of the area.

I was in this area on the 4th and 5th of January with my 14 year old son and we walked all the way to Jackson Square and then back down Bourbon Street and back to the Hyatt Place on Convention Center Blvd. We never felt unsafe at all.

Most of this area is no longer warehouses anymore. The old buildings have been converted to condos and such.
