Progresso excursions

Any recommeded excursions to take in Progresso? They can be local operators or Carnival ship excursions?

A tour of the area would be fine or a great beach break.

There is an excursion to Dzbilchaltun (sp?) Mayan ruins. They have a real awesome swimming hole and then took us to a beach afterwards. We all had a great time.

We just rode on that double decker bus. It was fun, we stopped and got coronas for $2 each. After that was over, we went to a flea market where the bus picks up/drops off. I bought a red dress (pictured in my sig) from a woman.

 

Then we went to the beach area and ate at Buddy's. American owned, right on the beach and relaxing.

 

Next, we walked around the town area, went into a store, and bought cans of Tecate, went into some shops.

 

We didn't end up spending a lot of money that day, but had fun.

We always use Autoprogreso when in Progreso. Have done the Dzibchaltuan ruins and the Yucatan Reef Club. Next cruise we are taking AP to Uxmal.

We will be arriving in Progresso on feb. 25th with Carnival. We want to go to Uxmal. Should we book a tour with Autoprogesso now, on line? Or wait until we arrive there in the port? It looks cheaper to book with them than through Carnival's shore excursions.

One ship excursion I would not recommend is the Corona beach break. It is right by the pier. The water is not good at all there, beach is somewhat nasty, and they play a bunch of loud music. Some may like it but not us..

We just did the Dzbilchaltun tour booked thru' the ship. It was not by Autoprogreso but another company. Anyway, it was excellent, the guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Well worth it.
