Rambler5678 Posted February 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2013 Can you buy them here? If so where and how much?
bearette Posted February 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2013 If you live in the US I believe it is illegal to bring back. I can't help you with cost as I never bought one.
drew sailbum Posted February 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2013 Queen Conch (Lobatus gigas aka Strombus gigas) is a threatened species, but limited trade in conch and conch shells is legal. You may export no more than 3 conch shells from Cayman. Any more and you must get a permit from the relevant authorities at CITES. I know one person who has, for many years, sold horns fashioned from conch shells for US$20.
bearette Posted February 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2013 I looked into it and it is illegal in some islands and to the US fom Grenada and Haiti. So in Grand Cayman it looks like you are fine.
