fas64 Posted February 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2013 Last year we sailed the Adventure San Juan to Malaga we sailed Port side but we did not get the sun to much as it was at the Starboard side (South) all day Well we have learned and this time we are on the Starboard side. So after looking this up this is what I found, the word POSH comes from when the rich people sailed on ships from the UK to the USA they sailed Port Out Starboard Home (POSH) so they got the sun all the time. I must be a VIP or maybe just lucky that not to many POSH people are on this cruise. LOL

LOL not quite true, the POSH came from when ships went out to India particularly when the army was there in Victorias time and the voyage on sailing ships was long they wanted to be cool so PO out was no sun and SH was no sun also on the homeward journey. Freeway1 Posted February 10, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 10, 2013 World English Dictionary posh (pɒʃ) [Click for IPA pronunciation guide] — adj 1. smart, elegant, or fashionable; exclusive: posh clothes 2. upper-class or genteel — adv 3. in a manner associated with the upper class: to talk posh [C19: often said to be an acronym of the phrase port out, starboard home, the most desirable location for a cabin in British ships sailing to and from the East, being the north-facing or shaded side; but more likely to be a development of obsolete slang posh a dandy]
