qm2lover Posted April 18, 2013 #226 Share Posted April 18, 2013 Just quickly, our friends who cancelled their Vantage Fare and rebooked same cruise as a Getaway Fare and saved a massive amount did so in the one telephone call to P&O, just before the balance had to be paid. oldgrouchuk Posted September 5, 2013 #227 Share Posted September 5, 2013 Dai, The definition of scam is as follows :- deprive somebody of something by deceit; ie "we were cheated by their clever-sounding scheme".The other posters on this thread think that P&O put together a clever sounding scheme by suggesting that Vantage fares would price match any future reduction, when they new full well they had no intention of ever reducing the new Vantage fares. So please stop trying to defend the indefensible. John. I started this thread and I still say it is/was a scam. Oldgrouchuk. Ps I have just returned from the new Royal Princess, Venice - Barcelona. It was our best cruise yet, in every way. Dai I think you are very biased towards P & O

Isnt that a shame though, that you have to jump througn the hoops of losing your deposit etc. We just returned from the Carnival Legend, had a great time on a really nice ship. The service etc was about the same as P&O but we booked early and when the price dropped we got money back. Their criteria are that if you see a better price advertised by carnival (same cruise, cabin type) then they give you back the money. No rubbish upgrades, no rip off setting up two prices, no other scams like we have seen with P&O. They just gave us money back! We have booked lots of P&O cruises over the years, but no more we will only ever be last minute bookers with P&O now. They have screwed up big time with this rip off promise. The Carnival brand is more marketed to US customers where they get their full deposit back if they cancel before final payment, hence the price guarantees over there are meaningful. Here in rip-off Britain where they say "thanks we'll keep your deposit then" if you want to cancel and take advantage of late offer pricing there's far less incentive for them to offer any useful non-misleading price promises. Presumably the current P&O Getaway pricing for next year's sailing where only a small discount is offered on the Vantage price is in an attempt to get bookings where having paid in full up front the option of cancelling and rebooking with only the deposit being lost will be taken away.
