jocelysue Posted February 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Which activities are available on board during sea days on TA crossings except for the casino? Are there usually many children on these cruises? Ditto for Panama Canal? Is the food more European oriented vs American type fare (hot dogs, pizza, hamburgers?) What nighttime activities are proposed? In other words, does NCL compare favourably with other lines? TIA
Sauer-kraut Posted February 18, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2013 Usually not excessive amounts of children as they are usually done during school terms. As for activities, there are many things to do. Craft classes, trivia tournaments, time toread books, take naps, and things in the gym. If you join your roll call and they have activities scheduled there is a lot of fun to be had. We had a slot pull, meet & greet, luncheon, cabin crawl poker and grab bag exchange. We really had a lovely time. I love sea days, so transatlantics are my preferred type of cruise. The food remains the same, the menus are fleetwide, but there will be an offering for dinner of a local flavor. The main dining rooms don't often serve hot dogs and hamburgers, you'll find those up at the pool side grill.
camz Posted February 18, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2013 With regard to night-time activities comparing NCL vs. other cruise lines, NCL has excellent shows and entertainment scheduled on all the ships throughout the fleet.
Markanddonna Posted February 18, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2013 I love sea days and TAs. We recently went on a 16 night TA and rarely saw children. The kids clubs appeared to be vacant and we heard that there were maybe 10 kids onboard (3,500 passengers)and they were rarely seen- and ALL very well behaved and mannered. A lot depends on your cruise director's staff. You could have lectures, classes (crafts, how to), games, book clubs, cooking demons, etc. So much depends on the destination. Most TA passengers are a bit older.
PierreMena Posted February 19, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2013 Hi Tia Pierre and I are also from Trois-Rivières and have been cruising for a few years;) We enjoy NCL very much and have never had a boring moment. Sometimes we chose to be BORED on our balcony with good book and a glass of wine. When you rceive your Freestyle Daily (on board newspaper) you will see that you will lack time for all the activities. Night time brings along dancing, music, games and the shows in the theater. We love our sea days as they are so relaxing and I never tire of looking out at the ocean. I have to admit that I find good and weak points on any cruise line, but once on a ship I'm a happy camper! :D If you have other questions regarding NCL I'll be happy to try to answer them.
