The definitive Cheers program Thread

ditto,

IMO, Carnival's Cheers package is the worst drink package offered by any of the cruise lines. They really need to adjust and catch up.

Recently had the RCI premium drink package, costs less than Cheers, is unlimited, and despite both of us buying at the time, it is now available individually and both passengers in a cabin don't have to purchase. DW doesn't drink much so individual choice is now a much better offering.

Despite neither of us being serious consumers with RCI premium it was good to have a fixed budget, no worries about over spending, and discretion to order what we wanted, whenever.

BTW never saw anyone drunk or abusing themselves or the program all week.

Next cruise is a 14 day Carnival Pride, and Cheers is a limited package, only available if purchase for the entire cruise and both of us have to pay.

Cheers way too much cost vs convenience, esp. on a 14 day cruise.

Cheers cost is prohibitive. Will not be purchasing.

But next time we sail RCI we will purchase their premium package!

Carnival needs to at least match RCI!!!!

Exactly, I mean geesh the 15 limit drink per 24hours should invalidate the need to force everyone over 21 in the same stateroom to pay for cheers you would think.

While there are some things I dislike about the cheers program, I disagree they need to " catch up or match " RCI. Do you think CCL should also match RCI cruise prices ? As a rule RCI is much higher than CCL is in cruise price. Since RCI charges more for their cruises they can be a little cheaper with their drink package. I like CCL's way of doing it better.

I think Carnival should offer a variety of drink packages. I do purchase Cheers and will continue to do so but would like more options.

I personally would like one where both my partner and I could buy a combined packages of say 20 drinks (again $9.95 limit). This would be far more practical and cost effective for us! Having 20 drinks to share makes more sense.

My parents were recently on Costa and they couldn't speak highly enough of their drink package. It's roughly half the price of Carnival and doesn't have a limit. I don't understand how Carnival Corp can have so many variations in drink packages.

If you are on a 7 night cruise leaving anywhere other than Texas, and you buy Cheers on the second night, do you have to pay for all 7 nights? I've looked at this thread and others, and I have seen a lot of conflicting information about this, so If anyone has any clarification, I would appreciate it. Some people say you have to pay for all 7 nights, but if you buy it on the second night it refunds any drinks you bought the first night. Others say that you can get it the second night and you just pay for the 6 nights.

Since you can bring a bottle of wine on board, then I would be able to save the cost of the first day by just drinking the wine we bring the first night and purchasing Cheers the second. I've looked all over the place, and I always see both answers so I may have to just figure it out on board.

You can buy it on day two, and you will NOT be charged for day one. That's how I do it every time, I also take on wine, and buy a couple drinks as well.

I have another inquiry that I have not seen addressed yet.

How does cheers work with the casino free drinks after you get 1500 pts? Do the drinks you get in the casino count forwards your 15? Can I theoretically then if say on day 2 of my cruise hit the free drink point in the casino do more than 15 drinks in a day?

I did this on last cruise....5-6 drinks a night in the casino....0.00 out as drinks on us...then 15 drinks throughout day and night on cheers. enjoy.

You will be charged from the day the package is purchased. Remember days are 6am-6am waiting until night 2 will only give you a few hours of consumption towards the daily limit.

Also note drinks are not back credited from day 1 you will be charged full price for those.

I don't buy into that, Carnival Magic can be quite expensive and RCL has competitive prices IMO when searching recently for my next cruise. You did not reply to my quote, but I think Carnival needs to kill the all over 21 rule/stateroom, especially since there is a 15 drink limit. While RCI had no limit, I don't think 15 is out of line and would aid an individual purchase program, by limiting exposure.

The other thing is buying the program. I live in Texas and RCI allows prepay in Texas so you can drink on day 1 or buy the package on day 1.

Yes sadly Texas has unique laws but RCI gets around it via bonded liquor, i am sure they license from a "Texas" source. Carnival with all the money they have poured into Texas, I would think would have had that taken care of.

This is just one pet peeve of mine. I enjoy Carnival and have obviously almost sailed them exclusively with the exception of Navigator.

Sorry but I'm not asking you to buy into it, you have your opinion I have mine. I did not say say RCI doesn't have a cheaper cruise in some cases, but more often than not CCL is less expensive, if you don't believe I'm right do more than one search comparing the two with same date and same port. Since you are from Tx, maybe you search Galveston more than other ports, and yes in Galveston RCI has cheaper cruises than CCL. And yes I agree with the everyone 21 must buy it is the downside to the cheers.

of course this is opinion :) but tell me why from the context of a consumer do you "agree" with making everyone over 21 get the cheers package vs individual?

I get your point about what the other poster said in CCL emulating RCL, in that you disagree and I would agree with your position on that, but in principle, the cruise brands aside is what i am getting at.

You need to re-read what I said, I was agreeing with you that making everyone 21 buy the cheers is the downside to the cheers program. I don't think everyone 21 should have to buy it.

Whelp just read all 57 pages of this thread

I've never seen the phrase " take off your blinders" so much in my life lol

I was already convinced to get the cheer package before I read it. I just don't want to have to worry about a big bill at the end of the cruise

Thanks to the original poster for putting this together!

So, if I purchase the package on the first day, but have a few drinks before I purchase it, will the apply the drinks I've already purchased to the package? Even if I don't want them to?

Kim

Correct, but you should just go to the bar right when you get on and do it.

I have a feeling I know the answer to this, but I friend of mine told me this was allowed so I'm gonna ask:

If my husband and I get cheers, can I get sodas or virgin frozen drinks for my daughter without it being an issue?

The politically correct answer is NO the plan is not to be shared. However in my experience the bartenders didn't give me a problem with the exception of waiting 5 minutes between orders.

Do you know if you would you have to wait 5 minutes between orders when only 1 of the drinks is alcoholic? Can I get a soda and a margarita at the same time? A beer and a virgin daquiri? Or is it 5 minutes regardless?

thanks;)
