The definitive Cheers program Thread

After reading about being "Cut-off" at 15 drinks, does anyone have experience of trying to purchase a bottle of wine at that point? (I assume some bars can sell bottles?)

If so, was it allowed?

It's hard to understand why Carnival would refuse revenue provided you are not drunk.

If you think you'll hit 15 just buy the wine ahead of time just to be safe. I hit 15 on 2 seadays last year.... make friends with a waiter/waitress and they'll spot you a few drinks..... especially in casino my dad somehow always was getting comp'd drinks :)

Someone previously asked this and it was never answered and I'm curious myself. I've gotten spiked coffee in the past under cheers (from regular bars, the coffee bar itself refused) but I'll be going on the sunshine in October and am interested in the spiked shakes at the shake spot. Does anyone know if it falls under cheers like the coffee does or is it a split charge? Any information is appreciated.

I have a question. Is the Cheers program available while sitting poolside?

I sailed many years ago on Carnival and purchased the soda package. While lounging by the pool I was not allowed to order soda from the bar person walking around but had to get it myself from the bar. This was back in 2006.

Has things changed since then?

I keep thinking about the Cheers program and trying to make a decision now that the price is closer to what we might spend on our own. We are traveling out of Galveston. The six day total for the two of us at the new reduced cost ($517 including gratuity & without tax) is at the high end of what we have ever spent on alcohol on a ship for seven days. Our total alcohol bill with a wine $190 wine package is usually closer to $400, topping at $500 once or twice. We do watch our bill, so with Cheers we might enjoy a more relaxed cruise if I knew we were going to at least break even.

We always buy a wine package and then purchase individual drinks supplemented by the two bottles we bring on board. With three port days and sleeping, I'm not sure the break even is worth the wait for the next glass of wine at the table and I won't want to buy a bottle if we purchase cheers. When ordering a cocktail at dinner in the MDR, I've sometimes waited long enough that I might not have ordered. For those of you who use Cheers and drink wine in the MDR, are the individual wine glasses available to order without much delay and are they served promptly?

I usually get a glass of wine from one of the bars outside the MDR. Once I get half way through it, I order a 2nd one. That way I don't run out! My partner does the same but he drinks beer.

That is a good suggestion. I thought of starting off with a glass. Do you have any difficulty finding the cocktail server to order a 2nd or 3rd?

I'm seriously thinking about purchasing it. How much for a 7day cruise?

I'll be on the Conquest from Oct. 26 to Nov. 2nd. So that's counted as 6 days Cheers because I'm disembarking on day 7 right?

I believe I answered my own question.

Per day $57.44 x 6 days = $344.64 total including gratuities. Am I right or am I working with old prices?

I've had the Cheers package twice now and both times it was a nightmare trying to get served in the MDR. At one point during our Breeze cruise my partner got up and went to a nearby bar and got us both a drink and was back before I even saw any wait staff! Since then we always get a drink to take in with us!

No, it would be 7 days for Cheers! (unless you purchase on the second day, which we do not officially know if it is still an option). Technically, you are disembarking on day 8. The day you embark counts as day 1. Disembark day never counts.

I believe you are working with old prices. For a 7 day cruise:

$37.50 per day X 7 days = $262.50 + $39.38 (15% gratuity) = $301.88 per person.

Thanks, that sounds even better! :)

I'm looking forward to the experience. I don't think I can knock back 15 cocktails per day, but I'm sure I'll be close enough especially during Karaoke and wine at dinner.

We did Cheers on a 5 day this summer. We had debated it heavily as it would be slightly more than we'd ever spent on alcohol. it ended up being a blast and well worth it! We tried things we never, ever would have. The Alchemy bar alone made it really fun because we could try things without worrying about hating them. We also found our waiters, once they saw the cheers label took extremely good care of us. There were a couple that could spot us across Lido or in the theater and point and nod and bring us our usual if we wanted.

We also had waiters that would bring two drinks and then just ring them up with some time in between. We like shots of JD to sip with a beer back. :)

We also did the glasses of wine with dinner instead of a bottle. it was really nice to be able to have different wines and not have to commit to a bottle together. We never had an issue with a bar waiter not coming around enough, again, once they saw the cheers. We did also tip a little extra so maybe that helped.

Overall for us, it was worth it and a lot of fun. We never hit the 15 drinks, but we did take a couple of unopened beers back to our room as an emergency fund. :D We at least broke even every single day without hardly trying. Also we found once you flash the cheers symbol the top shelf liquor comes out. They assume grey goose etc. which again, isn't something we'd order in our Cranberry and Vodka's but hey - I'll take it once it is included!!

This post helps to push me closer to thinking we'll try Cheers this next cruise. We are travelling alone this time and I think we may be more comfortable trying more adult beverages with kids and grandkids around.

Still 15 drinks a day, never came close though and really enjoyed myself especially the Green Iguana!

Is it the Green Iguana or Blue Iguana:confused: if it's the Blue Iguana and you with Red blood shot eyes, from 15 cocktails, should then be calling it the PURPLE Iguana.....:p:rolleyes::D

It's the Green Iguana at the Blue Iguana! I am not a heavy drinker at all so it made my knees numb everytime!

I'm sure I'll find myself at the Blue Iguana. I love Tequila cocktails and shots.

What drinks are most popular at this bar? I heard someone mention Tiramisu Martini being served on Carnival. I had that once and I loved it. I can't wait to have a couple of TM's while on the ship.:) I just have to remember to keep hydrated with lots of water.

I'd like to buy a cheers program for my four day cruise... But will it be like having a soda card ? I mean, the roving bar servers, once they find out you have a soda card they avoid you like the plague.

Guess I'll have to just plant myself on a bar stool, or grab a drink while walking by.

But you shouldn't have to be made to feel that way. Nor, have to not sit poolside on your vacation because of this. You paid up front, you should get better service, not crap. They're not giving anything for free. You could've not purchased it and drank a lot less soda and then they'd lose money. Its possible it may be because soda card sales don't count so they don't get included in some type of quota that needs to be reached daily, if that's so they should change that rule.

I mentioned something like that in a previous posting of my 2006 experience using the soda card. If they do the same with the Cheers card I'm not gonna be very a happy cruiser. If I see them behaving that way I will make a complaint. It's like they're saying " We have your money already so your not important anymore."

For all the years I've sailed with NCL, after this experience, I've never been made to feel that way. I get the same service and attention to my beverage request like everyone else. Crossing my fingers that you and I will have a great experience with the Cheers card.
