screen-gem Posted February 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2013 You can follow the location of over 45,000 ships worldwide (passenger, tanker, cargo, etc) at the Marine Traffic Project. Track the Windstar fleet here: Wind Surf http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?mmsi=309242000 Wind Star http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?mmsi=309163000 Wind Spirit http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?mmsi=309056000 The information displayed includes speed, course, and ETA at the next port (assuming the crew have entered it into the transponder). NB - this reporting system uses GPS satellites to determine the ship's location/speed, and VHF radio to transmit the information to ground-based receiving stations. As a result, ships are only tracked when they are within range of the ground receivers. (i.e., there's no information when a ship is on a trans-oceanic crossing, or sailing in a remote region not equipped with VHF receivers).
