Just Back Home from Cruising on the Destiny

Recommended Posts

Nope, definately no need for snow days! I live in the northern part of the state, so I have seen several days that school closed because of snow - but you gotta understand that even a small amount of snow causes a heck of a lot of chaos around here!!! I don't recall any snow days this past winter. I don't know if it's just my area or what, but kids around here have definately been out of school for a while. My sister just visited San Antonio the week of Memorial Day and said that tons of kids were at all the vacation hot spots, so maybe Texas kids get out early too??

Usually schools in the south start school in mid-late Aug....Up North most kids dont begin classes until after Labor day. So thats why we our school dont finish up until 1st-2nd week of June.

Probably anywhere it's hot they get out earlier - I think that woul dmake the electric bill easier on the towns. :) yeah we didn't have a bad winter but there were still at least 5 snow days up here. I know when I was in high school we had one year where we were stuck in school till the very end of June due to snow days. And I belive in 1996, many schools were in session in July, or were doing things like lengthening the school day becasue it was such a bad winter....Over 12' here in CT. I was at UCONN then and it was a BLAST! lol

Oops. Still

Um, let's see, the Destiny, rude passengers, stewards that are allowed to sleep, yeah, that's it.

Oh the horror of it all. :D

I'm telling everyone if you need some good laughs come read this thread. They're going to be pretty mad when they read everyone's comments.

P.S. I'm writing Carnival to see why they only offer a weight loss program on Destiny. My husband and I can stand to lose some pounds maybe we should cancel Valor and Book with Destiny instead? Nahhhhhh

Yes, Houston/Katy schools were out in Mid May.... I thought this was earlier than when I was growing up though. It was usually the end of May.

I've conversed with Beverly on a couple of threads. At least she posted and asked some questions before stopping by again to drop this bomb... Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and might be 100% the opposite on the exact same sailings. I tend to roll with the punches more on vacation, but I research for months to make sure I know all the good and bad. My expectations are reasonable before I step foot onto the ship or resort.

Hello it is me the one that everyone loves to hate I guess.

Ok what was good was the tubing in Dominica. I loved it, my husband skinned his shin from top to bottom.

I loved the waiters. They were funny.

I loved the casino. I won money

I loved the ports. Especially Aruba and the El Gaucho Rest.

I loved the silver moon in Barbardos Not to be missed

I loved my balcony.

I loved the hard bed helped my back

Yes I did lose 15 lbs. I lost 44 lbs in one and one half month.

Yes I starved on the ship. I am a picky eater I guess But I had trouble eating food I could not tell what it was especially the turkey with canned gravey

I loved Breakfast especially the eggs benedict that had no sauce but something baked on.

I loved the spa really loved the spa.

I loved the idea that we landed in Puerto Rico and had to wait because they had smuggled 15 kilos of cocainne (can't spell too weak from losing 15 lbs) and we did not get off until well after noon with no water and only sassy Carnival personel telling us to basically back off and go away and they could not tell us why we were delayed. (Later found out pretty common dope being smuggled aboard this ship)

I loved drinking and yes I do drink folks.

I like luxury and this was not luxury. When I pay for something I expect that I get what I pay for and believe me you folks that loved the food you have a real problem. The food to me was 2nd rate and inferior and undercooked. I spent tons of money leaving the ship and eating on the shore.

By the way make a reservation at El Gaucho in Aruba if you want the best steak in the world (and it taste like steak not like dog meat that was served on the ship.

Now my husband who eats anything would not eat either. Yuk food Yuk food.

Ok someone said see where she posted. You bet I stayed ast the Ritz Carlton for 5 days. 3 prior and 2 after. The club level where everything was included. Booze to your liking, food that tasted like quality and service you could only imaging.

For you Italian food lovers Go to the El San Juan and eat at the rest. The best in the world as far as I can see.

Ok I traveled on Radisson to Tahiti before 2 times and if you want luxury and real food and free french win. and only 300 passengers. Try that and I guess that spoiled me.

Carnival for a 3 day drunk to Mexico is ok but I would rather enjoy a quiet life than be on that Cruise line trapped for 7 days again.

Am I bitter. Nope. Am I angry You bet. Did I get what I paid for No!!!

But I am the person who lost 15 lbs and hate Carnival food.

I guess I have a real problem. Is there a support group I can join?

You spent tons of money eating ashore and you still lost 15 pounds?

Well, unless you're upwards of 300 lbs. or more, I seriously doubt you lost 15 lbs. based on what you've written above. Having battled my own obesity and weight loss, I know what it takes to lose weight. I know what to takes to lose 55 lbs.!! It took me 10 months.

I've been a lifetime member of weight watchers for the past 4 years. I've seen some hugely obese people. How many women did I see losing massive amounts of weight? None. The most, in a week, I've seen is 7 lbs., and she was huge. Granted I have seen some men lose around 10 pounds in a week.

I am not trying to intentionally flame you. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy yourself and I'm sorry if you find this offensive, but for someone who has struggled his entire adult life with his weight, I just don't buy it.

Come on guys, why is everyone focussing on her 15 pound weight loss? Anyone can do that on the right kind of diet. In fact, Atkins can easily do that and that is with stuffing your face too with rich, creamy foods. It is possible. And even if not true, who cares? She is trying to make a point: she was disappointed with the food.

Like someone said: no matter what cruiseline, no matter what ship, there will always be some people who will be disappointed. So what? If we all liked the same thing, there would be no room for variety.

No. I cannot be done. Period. As I said, I know what it takes to lose that amount of weight having done it myself. I understand she was upset with the cruise, but her believability is very low because of her "loss", IMO.

Unless she took extraordinary means to purge the food, then it's somewhat possible.
"Oh and Memorial day the US is still in school."

NOT SO! Maybe in your area kids are still in school at the end of May, but in my area, the kids have been out of school for at least a week by the time Memorial Day comes. I have never even heard of a school in my region that is still in session that late in the year.
My goodness, when do your kids start school? Here in Virginia, kids won't be out of school until next week (17th is the last day).
