Kayaking in Phillipsburg St Maarten

We will be arriving on Epic on March 12th. Norwegian has a kayaking/snorkel excursion - it is out to Simpson Bay Lagoon. The one review I read on it was detailed and the person says this lagoon is mostly composed of yachts. We'd really rather see open water and nature than yachts. Can anyone add any further reviews of this excursion? And perhaps a better alternative?
