Any suggestions given these circumstances?

Recommended Posts

Having a bit of dilemma. We booked this cruise with the intention of using our aeroplan points for the flights. Have been saving them for quite a few years.

Long story short - 20 flights came up for our intended day before flight on February 8th. Sure out of toronto fly to Ottawa sit for 12 hours, then fly to Montreal and have to stay overnight. Then following day (now +1 day into February 9th day of cruise) flights don't arrive in San Juan until 3:30pm!

All the flights are gone already (not that we could have booked any of those) and now I am waiting for the airline partners to list theirs (US Air and United) sometime this month.

This is for our 30th wedding anniversary and we saved and saved our points to do it. Hubby is not thrilled as the card to collect points costs us $120 a year.

Apparently Air Canada and Aeroplan are no longer part of same company and Aeroplan is having to chase them to honor contracts.

What to do any suggestions? Did I miss something?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, pay for you flight and cancel your card .:)

Currently alot of the points that go on the card are from pre-paid, but reimbursed services. Once the dd's have flown the coup it will probably not be worth keeping the card. But I must say the insurance coverage for travel on the card is very good - it has everything except cancellation - which is easily purchased elsewhere.

We can use aeroplan to fly out of Buffalo - but with the trip being in February that might be tricky due to snow storms. It is a few hours away from us. We are still considering it.

Right now there are two possibilities we have nailed it down to:

1 - flights on aeroplan for 80,000 pts

2 - one flight with airmiles on points (3800), pay cash for other flight and use 66,500 aeroplan points for a $600 cruise credit (not best use of points)

Unfortunately the option 2 seems to be coming up before the option 1. Not sure what to do about that.
